So as the title suggests, looking for some trials for a bit of fun in the near future. Vehicle is a Discovery, pretty much standard as it is bar some HD steering rods and other heavy duty bits. I have big plans for it but just want a bit of fun in the mean time. It's not taxed or anything so rules out RTV's. If anybody can suggest any, that would be great. Thanks.

With it not being taxed puts you in a modified class. which means your up against 80 inch hybrids. can you not tax it? It has to be more than MOTable before you can do any MSA sanctioned trials?

You can try the AWDC but anything localish will need to be taxed to be in RTV or MSA legal roll cage for the modified section and over and above MOT std

Ah ok thanks for the info, I will just have to wait till it's built then until I take anything on.

What have you got pics???

Away for a couple weeks but it's a disco 1 manual v8 on muds (standard size) Cut the plastic off the front for approach angle. Got basic diff guards, steering rod guard.

Just want a bit of fun. I had planned to get the frame / cage sorted on it over winter but the 90 has thrown a wobbler and wants new rear door, possibly new passenger door too. Just had timing belt done as just got to that mileage. Also needs new rear seats.

Ugh.

Better speaking with local clubs and asking them. Depending on who they're affiliated to, or what the local members want, as to how the rules are 'interpreted' or indeed even if they allow what you've got to run at all.

this - my local club dont stipulate "mot" standard at all for their RTVs.

dont know if you can see - not the best photo but ..... there are no wings , no rear door , the fuel tanks a jerry can strapped to the floor in the rear loadspace and the exhaust has a tiny little motorbike silencer and tail pipe poking out through the bonnet.

blind pew wouldnt give it a ticket even with a bumper sized envelope of 20s

Man can the lad drive it though - although he is little stuck in that photo.

If the club runs insured events through the msa then they must comply to their regs.

Failure to do so means if an msa officer was to turn up the club could get its insurance revoked or the CoC/scruteneer a serious bollocking if an accident happened and it was shown they were not complying with all rega then the CoC could be liable.

When I say MOT'd most clubs run Road Taxes Vehicle class usually means it should be road worthy and be in MOTable condistion. I.e must be safe built to regs. Other clubs run different classes such as SVT AVT Modified but all pretty much run to the same saftey regs in the more std classes. Having no rear door is not unsafe. Having a jerrycan as a fuel tank is could be ok aslong as it meets with regs. And could well be argued it could pass an MOT should it be deemed safe. Interpretation is a huge part some clubs have a very loose idea of saftey. A good basis to get near the regs is a vehicle with an Mot or indeed MOTable. Batteries need to be covered and secure.

For ALRC ring your local club and talk to the scruteneer as it seems your disco is fairly std and probably one of the only clubs that you could be competitive in without cutting it to pieces.

Not being crazy but RTV's of old used to be drive there with
The family take part drive home un damaged after some fun. Most ALRC clubs run this why not take your 90?
Lots of the guys run them as daily drives if it's a bit naughty or you feel uncomfortable stop. You won't be dropped into 4 feet of crud for the sake of it it's only RTV. OTher clubs do not run this RTV can be more extreme but when your using a nice motor against some old hack they paid £50 or £100 at the scrappers the fun soon goes. Been there done that!! It sounds like your disco is in fairly decent shape and std. Have a look see! The chances of damaging your 90 Rtv'ing at a Land Rover ALRC event is minimal and only usually down to driver error. When your new you do normally get looked after!

That was exactly what RTV trials were like when I used to drive in them twenty years ago.
Most turned up in their daily drives or work vehicles, with a few family or friends as ballast if they were up for it.
The courses were set up so that if people didn't make a section, marshalls could remove a few canes and let them go through.
I used to love it, and don't remember seeing anyone damage their motor seriously :)

It's the way for it to be! If you want to destroy a motor or want a bit more buzz, CCV or modified modified are in place but people don't want to bother with the extra saftey regs the cost the prep and suchlike. so they push RTV to be rougher. Ill be honest I liked it and for a while they used to combine modified and RTV where the course got progressively harder mainly due to numbers taking part after foot and mouth. but they got silly and badly bobtailed rangies as they were £60 scrapppers with welded rear Diffs box section and poor homemade cages Put me off!! So I left and only the last 4 years been involved with ALRC events. I used to moan about their strict regs bumpers etc however they have survived the modified nutty saftey regs thrown away culture that took over so many clubs. I'm more than happy to take my 90 (still a wreck) but a road going wreck around a RTV course.

Yes, I had got the idea that trialling was one of the many things that has not improved with time! :(

As ever there are many good clubs it's just picking a good one

We went to a Tyro that happened to be local for my neice to drive but after watching the first section it was clear my old mans bog std 300 disco was going to et damaged and they still are supposed to be to tyro regs!!!!

That was the last straw for that club.

ALRC is growing on me it's very very much family friendly and the Nationals are always a blast!!

Have a look here for a Local club. ALRC Member Clubs
I joined NERO which is my local version and have attended a few trials , need to change my tyres to comete properly but great friendly group who will let you drive there own landrovers if yours not suitable or broken.
