Looking for first Freelander.

Hi all. I am brand new to LZ so hello, I hope you don't mind if I jump straight in!

I think I am in the market for a Freelander, got about 5k budget plus 1k part ex so looking about 6k.

Requirements wise I want some mod-cons (coming from a Volvo with a bum warmer) so things like heated seats and air con essential. Also needs to be 5 door. Roof rails essential, tow bar nice but not essential as I can get one fitted no doubt.

I have found a few locally (Norfolk) and have done some research so understand the TD4 seems to be the way to go. I am not hugely mechanically minded so need a base level of reliability.

Would the experts amongst you have a quick glance here for me and see if you think this is a reasonable price for this model?

Looks like a nice car but there's plenty to think about that doesn't show up in the advert such as are the VCU and bearings in good order?, are the tyres matched and in good order?
If you haven't yet I'd advise you read up on here about known Freelander issues, I'm sure the one you're looking at is ok but forewarned is forearmed, good luck and welcome to the site

For the budget I'd be looking for a HSE or HSE Premium model with all the bells and whistles .

Theres one at Waveney volvo lowestoft for around that price iirc a late td4 might be worth a look for comparison

On the later models the Freestyle replaced the HSE, although with lower spec! If you drop down to an 05 you can get an HSE with everything on with about 2 grand to spare! Plenty of money to fix it with

Having said that, winter is coming so prices will hold strong if not rise a little!

I have a 2006 brochure and the HSE is listed and I have one.

The only options I don't have are the heated screen, which can be retro-fitted and the FBH, which can also be retro-fitted.

If not going into deep mud etc, worth looking at the Sport Premium model. Leather, a/c, heated seats etc. 35mm lower and a more car-like drive.

I brought mine last year 62k full main dealer service history until the last service which was a few miles before I brought it. It was immaculate and less than the above budget

Other thing to watch with an 06 is the reg date. Anything after March (23rd I think?) is higher tax.

Are you open to the idea of an auto? If so it is a much nicer drive and doesn't suffer from the cursed clutch slave cylinder leaking.

As far as I knew, the run out models were just Adventurer the one in the middle, and Freestyle

No. All 3 were available. I spoke to somebody at the weekend who bought one of the last, a freestyle and decided not to pay the extra for the HSE.
