:) hi ya,
i'm looking for a cheap second hand cb radio/ set up for my discovery.

i've been reading in diffrernt mags/ threads etc about land rover owners
passing the miles away on cb whist on the road.

been looking on various sites, but the price some are going for i could buy a brand new set up..... but don't want to spend that type of money until i've given it ago. ( and you hear of people getting rid of broken/ " unchecked" radios this way ) :(

i was wondering if any one could point me in the right direction as to where i may find one?

not looking for anything flash but would like one that is fully working and a complete set up, ie radio & antenna etc would be great... :p

however i can buy a brand new compact radio etc for £49

any pointers or comments would be great......

have a look on fleabay stacks on there ,
mines mounted by the centre consul by the internal light !!!on the roof !!!
if you do a search on here im sure ive seen a idiots guide , and step by step photos of what to do !!!!!!!!!!!!

Ours are fixed to the plastic bit on the side/tops of the trans tunnel. Full kit off ebay £36. Bumper ariel mounts (twin) £3
Ariel and twin arial (two arials to one cb, looks good and practical) off 'thunderpole' £25.

And my dads was £20 off ebay too. Both quite new models.

Great for runs taking the whole family to places (14 seats really helps!)

hi ya,

bought set up from maplin on offer £39.99

now all in and mounted to my new light bar with 4 spot lights ( above front wind screen ) look great, bargin too £85 all in inc postage.

even hidden most of the wiring too in the light bar......

thanks mark

I got the minor CB from maplin for £40 and bought a HENCH 2m whip for it, so all in was about £60, does me right, I can usually get about 15-20 miles range, but I'm making a linear amp so I will have much more range.

When buying Aerials from Maplins be certain to get a CB aerial and not a 2mtr (144Mhz) waveband Ham Radio aerial. CB's operate on 27Mhz. they will not work together. They sell both at maplins and few if any of the staff have a clue what it is they're selling you.

Why??? apart from burners been illegal.:( 99% of your CB use is going to be when out greenlaning and the people your talking to will be yards away. A linear amp will just blow their ears out, if not their rigs. If you want increased range take your foundation Radio amateur Licence course and get a ham radio like, what I have got.:D

i brought my setup on Communication Eleven Homepage - UK 4x4 CB Radio Specialists - Expert Advice, Competitive Prices & knowledgeable staff - now in our tenth year of trading have a look at the starter packages. the midland range is quite good. i brought a tti cb radio with super gripper mag mount and short stinger whip and have managed to reach roughly 25 miles range. i have mine mounted behind the drivers seatbelt buckle in my disco onto the side of the lockable cubby box. nice and tidy and out of the way.

Am getting my ham license. And am only going to burn a few extra watts for when people arent quite getting me, I've had this prob with my mobile unit for a few weeks, am hearing someone just out of range fine but he can't get me. Just a lil project too, not going to use it all the time.

Ive got a Midland 98 Plus (think thats what it is), purchased in Jan, only used it once, with ariel, etc going cheap. Its still boxed, and ready to fit, only thing you may have to purchase is a gutter mount, as I fitted the ariel directly to the roof. PM me

just to add, here is a pic of my cb unit mounted how i explained in my previous post :D

oops didnt think of that. had the summer head on thinking about shorts and t-shirts etc, forgot about the reality of jumping in the truck after a days work out in all weather :( if its a pain i will find a new place although i like the location at the moment. out of the way and keeps me concentrating on the road instead of fiddling about with the cb when driving

 I had a CB in my bedroom when I was a kid .Must have been late 70's.It was illegal back then and we all thought we were really cool.I remember my first rig was a midland 300 m straight 40 .Later I got an 80 band rig that had high and low band. That was even cooler! When you copied one of your mates that had high band you'd say flick the switch good buddy , then you'd both be on high band and no one with a straight 40 could earwig on your conversation .It was deadly serious in those days ,any one caught toilet mouthing would be dealt with by the leader of the local CB group.Ive not been on one fo 30 years ,you had to know all the jargon back then so the police didn,t know what you were talkin about [yea right]Eh them wert days.
