if a head has been really hot they can move again letting gasket blow quite quickly ,whether skimmed or not, its a risk you take

A hairline crack was discovered in the head. I guess that could explain why this HG blew so quickly. Now the garage is looking for a replacement. Of course, I'm losing sleep over how the price is going to skyrocket

Here are a few pics from my visit to the garage. Mechanic said that there were two issues which led to the blown HG. 1- when the last mechanic replaced the head gasket in January of this year, he did not scrape off all the remnants of the old head gasket before replacing with the new one. 2-the hairline crack in the head. They found a good replacement for 400 plus VAT.

head been cracked on a turbo diesel is something id expect they nearly are between the valves and hotspots,block face looks clean enough to me in any case not bad enough to cause an issue so soon, id think head or block face isnt flat between no2 and no3 cylinders

I was told the hairline crack in the old head can't be seen with the naked eye. Does that sound legitimate?
