I'm looking for my first Land Rover, a Defender 110. From what I've read, a 2002-2004 seems about right and within my budget (just). But after looking through the forums and reading the specialist mags, it seems a bit of a minefield. Guess I'm probably going to buy from a Land Rover specialist and start to pick up the knowledge afterwards.
So, this is a post to introduce myself. The reason for the Defender (apart from always wanting one) is that I've just moved to a barn 1000 metres up a French mountain, and we're getting serious snow here this winter. I have a BMW X3 at the moment which is great on the road and copes quite well with the slippery surfaces, but it's a bit too... well, pretty, for round here! I need something which can cope with all surfaces and pull a trailer, and something I can maintain myself (no chance with the X3).
I've posted a query in the Defender forum about optimum mileage - should probably have put it here instead. So, at what mileage do you think a Defender starts to break everything? 100,000? 150,000? 200,000?
