The one in particular I'm looking at is a 1994 Defender 90, 80k miles. Is there anything I should look out for in terms of problems? Any advice is appreciated.

Chassis corrosion is one of the main things to look for. Just spend a few minutes searching this, and other forums and you will find loads of posts on what to look for.

Yes, chassis and bulkhead are the main areas of corrosion. Find out if the chassis has been welded. Check around the door mirror for signs of corrosion or repair. Check the rear cross members.

The best piece of advice I ever had on here was to go look at it equipped with a long screwdriver and a hammer. If the seller doesn't know of any problems then he should b fine with you tapping down the chassis everywhere u can get to to look for rot.

Hope this helps a bit.

If u get a good chassis, engine and gearbox anything else is easily repaired.

Yes but when I first started I read everyone elses threads, but they didn't really help because I didn't know enough to understand them. It was only when I started my own thread and got answers to my specific questions did I begin to get it. So give him a chance :)

true but hes asked a vague general qs "what should i look out for" which has loads of answers all are in the search area..

a specific qs will get a specific answer..

Apologies for being a n00b, lads.

So chassis rot and rust, given the age of what I'm looking at would be a concern.

I've heard that gearboxes can give trouble as well, and I've driven a few battered ones and they have some gearbox related problems, so is it very common?

I have a few more questions but I think it'll be better if I keep them to myself for the time being.
