So. Before I get shot down I felt that this was the best place to post this request. If not shoot away - Reglardless. Help is needed.

I have tried and failed to take off my Defender A-bar and bumper to fit a new, non rusty, bumper then put the A-bar back on top.

I am becoming unstuck as the A-bar is just wedged too tight. Think I need one of those snap-on crowbars to dislodge it!

Basically I was wondering if anyone in the London area wanted a few quid tomorrow to help fit this bar?? I am happy to come out to them.

Again. Apologies for this not being 100% in the right area (or even 50%).

Thanks lads. And ladettes.

:amen:

Loosened the four bolts the the front and then the ones either side of my steering rack guard as they sandwich the A-bar prongs against the guard. Getting these prongs loose so that the A-bar comes off is the problem. I have tightened everything up now as have to be heading out tonight.

Severely narked off as am driving to France wednesday and was hoping for the new kit to be on! :(

Thanks for the interest BTW.

can you post some pics cos I can't get my head around what's stopping the A bar coming off.

If you have spare bolts to put in and the ones already fitted are as rusty as you say they are you could simply do em up so that they shear off.;)

Thinking about when i replaced mine, the four bolts going down were a git to get out as you couldn't get a spanner on the nuts i cut a spanner down to get to it. have you removed all these bolts

Sorry lads. At the girlfriends so will post pics tomorrow. The a bar is a land rover one and the prongs are sandwiched between the steering wheel guard and the bolt that fastens the steering wheel guard on. I know 'this post is useless without pictures' so I will look to post them tomorrow AM. Is there anyone in London that wants to help? I would normally do it myself but really want the set up ready for France Wednesday and tomorrow is the only time I can do it!

Thank you all.

I'm nowhere near you I'm afraid but if you post the pics up I may be able to help from afar.

You have a 3 piece steering gaurd. If you undo the rows of bolts on each side of the front plate of the steering gaurd you should be able to take the plate off leaving just the outer plates of the steering gaurd. If you then slacken the bolts on both plates I rekon you'd be able to push em out sideways enough to get the prongs out. Worst case, If it still won't go then, remove the side plate on the passenger side of the vehicle. The one on the drivers side is usually the more difficult one due to the bolt going through the power steering pump.
