lockout mode?

hello, got a call last night from a friend that said she was locked in her disco series 2. she thinks she may have pushed the panic button on key when removing from ignition. the truck would not allow her out of vehicle. door locks stayed locked windows didnt work sunroof wouldnt open. she was frantic by the time she called me. we called two dealers(one in texas one in cali), one said to pull door handle twice and doors should open(didnt work), the other said to get her other key and open door from outside(she is still stuck in car at this time). the only thing that worked was something someone there said, turn key to start while pushing window button, this let the window down far enough to get key out to someone to open door from outside. has any one heard this b4? i fell if the vehicle is designed to do this as the dealer said, it is very unsafe. she was being held hostage by her car. i had even told her to unhook battery so locks couldnt relock, but then the wouldnt move at all. i hope someone can help me with this so she doesnt get stuck again, maybe with the kids next time.
