Hi, I've just bought a 1996 P38 2.5. The problem I have is there is no socket in the car for the locking wheel nuts. How do I go about obtaining one? I bought this Range from auction so it's not possible to ask the previous owner!

Any help greatly appreciated!

My motor came from fleabay
and it had locking wheels nuts that obvoiusly someone had lsot the key and had welded nuts on the top of them

means you can get a socket on them and undo them and replace them with ordinary nuts

cos unless they are very fancy 22" rims they aint worth nicking

also you would need a big jack and alot of bricks.
oh yeah and a big vehicle to have them away in

sets of 5 with tyres on 16" rims only make 100 -180 quid on fleabay

maybe that is just me

if you e-mail me the letter stamped on your wheel nuts i can supply you a new locking nut for it, i work for land rover. just thought id offer my help lol. thanks. or i have a brand new set of locking nuts complete with new key for sale ;-)

anyone know where I can get the early type locking wheel nut key? It's the one with the holes in the flange of the nut and 4 protruding pins (equally spaced round the nut) on the key. Not the type with grooves in the side of the wheelnut.

That type of locknut are easily overcome lawfully or otherwise. A tenner buys you a locknut removal tool which is just a reverse spiral socket. Get hold of one of them, get these nuts off and if you want get another new set do so otherwise a trip to the breakers for 4 spare nuts will set you back maybe £2 or £3 each.

Cheers for that... am I right that although the nuts are 27mm the reverse spiral tool for the lock nuts is 26mm? I can't seem to find anything bigger...
