Locking Unlocking

Hi,

I have a 2001 P38

Are the indicators supposed to flash when the doors are locked and unlocked with the remote key fob.

Locks and alarms OK but the indicators dont flash. I often therefore have to double check to be sure...

Any idea why it no longer flashes?

The Becm sometimes has little problems (and very big ones too) this sometimes happenes if the battery is a bit low on charge or it may change to flashing the side lights. check to see if the side lights flash. these are the two options loaded into the Becm and sometimes it de faults back to side lights

There are three settings, indicators, sidelights or nothing. We have two P38s, both flashed indicators when first bought then after a while one started (and still does) flashing sidelights and the newer one is in stealth mode i.e. nothing flashes but both still lock etc. The pest about nothing flashing is when you come back to one of these big car parks at night and you know it's there somewhere but............

Can also depend on whether the alarm is enabled or disabled in the Becm settings. If it's disabled, they don't flash

I would like to get ours back to flashing indicators but the local garage here who actually has a testbook can't work out how to do it!

I will hook up to Faultmate and explore the points you that you suggested.

The interior courtesy light has also stopped coming on when unlocked/key removed etc..tested the bulb and its OK so i'm confused.

Press and hold the middle light switch for 3-4 seconds. A message will come up 'interior lights enabled' or something like that

Thanks, I've tried this and it is set to lights on but the main centre light doesnt work. The small ones do. The bulb is OK...

Could be the light unit gone internally. They can get a bit condensation in them and it's a pcb at the back of the light rather than just a couple of wires.

Thanks, is there any way of testing/eliminating this...

The light in the back hatch door doesnt work either but the bulb is OK, maybe a similar issue?

Don't know if connected as the back light worked all the time we had the same prob with an internal light. I changed the bulb in it and it ame back to life again. As far as I am aware the tailgate light works off the boot lock although never actually investigated. Will have a check around.

Got Faultmate on it today.
Forced courtesy lights on with diagnostics and they worked OK.
The alarm was set to disabled and the lights option was set at side lights! Surprised me as the little red light on the dash suggested alarm was setting OK?
Enabled alarm and reset to indicators and all is now working OK, including courtesy light in tailgete.

Amazing how the search facility works. Just got a P38 Diesel and the alarm flashes the sidelights. Problem is not a problem afterall.
