Locking axle diffs - which ones for me?

Hi ya'll!

Got a 110 pickup from 1993 which I use for work.
I do lots of road driving, but I'm often in the woods dragging large loads and heavy trailers up muddy hills and over bumpy bits, and drag trees around, etc etc.
It would be so nice if my diffs locked up at appropriate times so I didn't keep needing the winch. I don't really want to swap for crazy knobbly tyres either, because of the road stuff. I'm told I have a salisbury axle, though tbh I've not a clue myself.

So... auto locking, limited slip, torque biased, air locking, electric..... blah blah ???????

I'd love everything to be 1) totally automatic
2) not wear out
3) be strong
What's the best? :)
 
Crazy Knobbly isnt needed , but would say a self cleaning mud terrain tyre is , as even with difflocks , if the tyres dont bite you still dont go anywhere. Lim slips usually lose their effectiveness over time, but are fully auto.
The no spin or detroit locker are also automatic , but as with all auto locking diffs they have side effects when driving , with feel and sometimes noises. manually operated (from in car) locking diffs give total traction , and when not locked no side effects . I have locking diffs on my 110 have been on for about 28 years now , maintenance free , They are Maxi drives , probably the best made , but no longer available. Ashcroft transmissions do locking diffs , and the no spin . HTSH
 
The only ones I'd buy are from Ashcroft. Either auto or manual. Either way you get a quality unit probably stronger too.

I've got 3 autos in mine. They don't wear out, they don't make noises, there are no side effects when driving and you don't need extra Gubbins like a compressor.

However no auto is as good as a manual locker as they don't 100% lock.

In any case I'd buy some more aggressive tyres first.
