You can't change the lock on the fuel cap to my knowledge. The one on the rear door has a release pin the same as the front door locks. Like the front door locks it likes to seize up and can be a pain to remove.

I use a small punch and a vice to get the pin to move, it is sometimes difficult to see as it may be covered in paint etc. In the end I just gave up and got the drill out :)

as for the filler just get a new one

snap, drilling works a treat at getting to pass door lock. I have seen advertisements, mainly on ebay saying you can change the locks on everything, including the fuel cap. But, I wouldn't go near it and I also cant see how you can, aint it a sealed unit? and why would you want to?

you can change the fuel cap barrel. its pretty easy.

I dropped mine and cracked it, so I bought a replacement and swapped the barrels around. This way I get to keep the same key, so i only have 1 key for all 4 locks.

Undo the 2 screws on the inside of the cap and remove things piecve by piece keeping an eye on which way up and how everything fits together. The britpart barrel threw little springs and **** everywhere and went in the bin. The genuine lock went in nicely and everything else was neat and new :)

give it a try.

Sorry Griff, i'm afraid Buster's slightly overshadows your effort!!!:D:D:D

my response was purely sarcastic :D fair play to buster for doing the guide. I just took it apart with a "see what happens" attitude... and it worked! as with most things i do really :) a quick google on this would have found the info needed im sure.

Thanks all for the helpfull replies

The reason i need to do it is because went to fill up the other day and fuel cap lock was froze and it snapped the only key i had so needs to be done.

well will give it a go at the weekend and let you know how it goes ect

Cheers again

Phil

loks pretty simple, the door lock I did today went in easy peazy. But, my catch gets stuck, when I try to unlock the door. The rod forces the catch to the right, and this doesnt allow it to fully rise, which is what is needed to unlock the door. Any ideas? I included pictures etc on another post.

If you take the bits to a GOOD locksmith, they should be able to make you a new one... will be a boatload cheaper, not to mention easier than swapping all the locks.

Thanks for that but i all ready have a new lock set (set of 4 £12) as i had to break in through the back door when the drivers door decided to lock itself while the engine was running so had to hammer screwdriver in back lock so needed to change them anyway

paddock love britpart and infact say they dont really do much gen stuff

All of the genuine stuff has OE next to the product name on there site.

The reason they do not do ANY bearmach stuff, is apparently many years ago (Early days of LRO i belive) Bearmach put a advert in the magazine but left Paddocks off the advert (They had a list of Distributors but fogot to put Paddocks on the list) . The owners of Paddocks got ****ed off and therefore don't stock anything bearmach.

Or so the storys go ;)

lol no doubt a guy who owns paddocks. us blokes can be awfully stuborn and pig headed. But, money, hmmm I would resolve the issue between them. Im going to liase between the two parties for a feee and get paddocks to bloody sell genuine LR stock!
