light weight 200 tdi conversion

Thought I'de post my experience so far. I've been driving a s3 with a 200di for about 4 years. I must say although it appears to fit and drive perfectly, it's crap! Too much low end power means it's bunny hopping 1st to 3rd. I've been through 2 gearboxes and 3 halfshafts. Using it everyday has rendered me half deaf. Now yesterday a hole appeared in my downpipe and because it's such a tight fit I can't get in there to patch it or remove it so it's even louder and absolutley gassing the cab! Using this engine does in theory have it's advantages but practically it doesn't work long term and is a pain to live with. I would keep the v8!

Just bought a 2a with a 200 di to get me through the winter since the lightweights taken so long and i agree its very loud and very slow

But it has no sound proofing what so ever and no turbo so its always going to be loud and slow !

Using the 300 over comes the turbo hitting the chassis rail / difficult exhaust routing but the chassis or engines mount has to be modified on the drivers side

Never seen the point in fitting a tdi and removing the turbo and the 300 manifold and turbo will fit the 200 which makes the exhaust alot easier

Ive got rolls of closed cell foam and foil backed sound insulation for the bulkhead and gearbox tunnel ,also it wont be a daily driver so should be ok to live with

3.54 diffs help if fitting a tdi

Getting there slowly had the engine running at the weekend by touching wires together ,need to finish the loom now
