Hi

after 5 mot's some new bloke realised my head lights were aimed to high because of my lift.

now they are legal they are worse then before.

what are good tried and tested upgrade options that are legal and dont involve rewiring everything ?

1994 defender 90 all electronics and cables are sound.

Thanks

Rich

try some 60%+ bulbs, or even 100%+ they will burn brighter than the standard landy ones, mine were very dim so i chucked some 60%+ bulbs in and hey presto more light :) its an easyish cheap fix, if not wire in a HID kit but they come in at around £120 and are a pain to fit IIRC, try some brighter bubls to begin with, I would recommend smoe Ring Xenon Ultima 120%+ Bulbs which i will be fitting later on this evening :D

I've fitted some clear lense lights (be careful to check they are E marked) and hen fitted +100% brightness halfords bulbs. Keep yer eyes open cos they are usually around £20 each but quite often go on special offer at buy one get one free.

Hi Ratty what lense would you recomed are there any makes to avoid ?

I did look at hid kits seem like to much hassle for plan A. and i read somewhere unless you have self leveling headlights they are aparently not legal !

i would also be interested in how you get on with the 120% ring bulbs ?

Cheers guys

Yep, you need self leveling suspension and headlight washers for HIDs.

The ones in this link are E marked

Land Rover Defender Crystal Clear Headlight Kit | eBay

The ones in this are not.

Land Rover Crystal Clear Headlights Safer Winter Nights | eBay

Apart from the E marking you will probably not see any real visible difference tbh.

I changed the headlights and uprated my bulbs at the same time on mine so I didn't get a chance to see which made the most difference.

The light/bulb combo are much better than the standard setup. If I had to make a criticism it would be that there is a slight dark area directly in front of my landy when I'm on main beam. I'm thinking about slinging some fog lights (not spots) on the front which I will have wired to the main beam to get rid of the dark spot.

i stuck some of the crystal ones in mine when i changed to LHD and they are much better although they were the sealed beam type before.

they are bright enough for me

I have ordered some wipac crystal head lights and some ring 120% bulbs so from flea bay so hear to being able to see when driving at night :)

hey

all the parts in went for Wipac crystal lenses and Ring 120% lamps

fitted the left no problems and look better then sealed beam.

went to fit right hand side to find side ligths have been bolted in from behind the wing :) so its one sided at the moment and i will have some fun with the right hand side tomorrow

one thing i have noticed on the guide it shows a bowl behind the lense is this needed ? does it make the new lenses (with breather hole in watertight ?)as mine is quite open to the elements or has anyone just coved the hole up ?

Thanks

Rich
