Howdy,

Some back story. After firing up my truck this morning I turned on the headlights, as you do when it is still dark for the dim beam to fail, no worries me thinks, will pick up a new bulb and fit it after work. Popped into the auto place and asked for a bulb for the truck, not knowing exactly what I needed I asked them to consult the crib sheet. Didn't realise they'd given me the inboard highbeam, but as it was now dark and I didn't pay much attention to it and fitted the new bulb. Which was probably for the best since the old inboard had lost the glass tip, which was slightly worrisome.

Turned on the lights and BANG! The dip/main beam bulb has exploded, cracked the lens and the marker light has gone off too.

I consulted the manual and couldn't find if there is a fuse for the light cluster, but a few questions:

1, Would there be any underlying reason for an already dead bulb to explode and take out 3 other bulbs in the cluster? Or is it possible there is a fuse not indicated, I checked them in the engine bay and under the seat, but never sure.
2, Anyone know where I can get a RH cluster quite quickly as a lack of illumination is rather concerning.
3, How easy/quick would it be to pop open the cluster and remove the glass. Only because until I get a new cluster it'd be nice to remove the flying objects which might take out another bulb.

Thanks in advance.

Did you touch the glass part with your fingers??

High Temperature Halogen bulbs should not be handled by the glass and always by the metal back plate....

The oils in your skin contaminate the very thin glass and causes oily hotspots which cause heat stress fractures in the glass and will shatter with some vigour....

The bulb that blew has never been touched by me as it was already fitted. And I'm aware of that, which is why I wear gloves and am careful to not touch the glass.

I suppose it is possible someone who put in the popping bulb could've touched it. But it has caused an awful lot of damage.
