Hi
wonder if someone can help me out. I have just purchased a 1989 landrover 90 with 2.5td (19j) engine. Recently the lift pump diaphragm broke so I replaced it with the one from mps below. Since fitting, the engine starts to splutter and cut out if I drive at around 50mph also the it revs high occasionally but not over run if I turn off the engine. I can get the engine running again quickly if I purge fuel again using lift pump and opening banjo on filter housing. This has only happened since fitting new pump.
The old lift pump did not have the large gasket in picture but I fit it anyway to see how it worked. My question is should I take off the large gasket and replace with normal size one and would this cause these sort of symptoms.
I took out the lift pump and checked the lever and there's slight wear marks on the upright (vertical) part of the lever (hope that makes sense) should this be the area cam hits or horizontal part ??? I stupidly threw away old pump to check length of lever before fitting. I tried fitting pump without large gasket but seemed like it wouldn't fit, lever catching inside. Can I just keep tightning nuts to bring flush with engine block, steel plate. I'm no mechanic just learning.
Many thanks for reading
Alan
