Hi. The disco I have has unmatched springs causing a few handling issues so want rid( hd rears and standard front it would seem)

Looking for a good well priced 2inch lift but will be using on amainly road with some green laining so must not be teeth rattling like what I have now,can I get away with just springs? Medium or light is what I'm thinking but advice would be great. Cheers.

My best advice is that you should read up how and why the suspension works the way it does. That way you’ll probably be able to answer your own questions and understand the impacts of component choice and selection :)

Thanks for the reply. The question was basically to gauge other opinions as being my first landy looking to raise suspension is new to me and alien having come from a tin top background:) as an example terrafirmas website offers good advice about spring rate etc but want an actual owner feedback if you like In a real world use.
Thanks.

The thing is. It’s a FAR bigger question. Opinions are fine. But you’ll find most people will only have tried stock (often worn out) and whatever they then go for.

However understanding how things work will give you are more power in knowing what will really be right or wrong for you. Regardless of what some blokes on a forum might claim :)

Btw - there are many different ways to lift a Vehcile. Pros and cons to all of them.

The first question to answer is:
-why do you want to lift it anyway? And then understand why your answer is what it is.

Ok good question. Well I want to run 265x75 r16 tyres with 30mm spacers to get the look I am after, with this I assume the tyres will rub on arches etc when off road?

Why is it on HD springs on the rear anyway? Has it been converted from original SLS?
If so I'd be looking at reinstating original set up.

Also from what I've read on spacers after thinking about a similar look you want to achieve, I understand they can put undue stress on the hubs...

Mines on HD rear coils as it has been 'upgraded' from SLS by PO and I'll be reinstating the air springs depending on the condition of the rest of the system as soon as I can afford it!

Yes it was converted from sls but I don't understand why people have to assume hd is the way to go. As 300 said it's understanding suspension which the p.o. clearly didn't.
I understand the leverage point will be different regarding the spacers but is it going to cause issues in good bearings or is it a case that if causes issues in older bearings accelerating wear?

but is it going to cause issues in good bearings or is it a case that if causes issues in older bearings accelerating wear?

The latter I'd say certainly, but new 'good' bearings age and wear as well

You say in your first post the main use would be on road with some greenlaning. A well kept standard disco 2 would be your best option for a daily driver, whilst being able to cope with the vast majority of green lanes in the U.K.
There's a thread on here somewhere that goes into detail on lifting a disco properly, someone will have the link I'm sure.

Any idea why the SLS was swapped for coils? As I said I want to reinstate mine and afaik all I need are the air springs and sensors, everything else is there. But without knowing why it was changed in the first place keeps me from diving in

If a daily driver and only greenlaning keep to standard.

Raised suspension also looks more menacing to other lane users.

Thoroughly read 300bhp/tons explanation which makes perfect sense in all he says,so on the back of this I have chosen to go the standard suspension route and adapt from there if needed. Plus some off set mods to give it in my opinion a nicer look.
She needs a bit of tlc but will come up nice. Pics to follow.
Thanks for all the info.

Just to add. Do make sure you are happy with your choice, regardless of what anyone else may or may not say.

My post was for info only and I’m really no more clever or wise than anyone else on here. But I am a strong believer in people making their own decisions :)

I was looking at it thinking the same, will also save some weight. Will also remove the step and jump seats.

It came with a winch bumper which I think I will remove also....worryingly I am removing all the items I bought it for!!:rolleyes:
