Lift Kit Advice

At the end of the month I will be purchasing a lift kit!

After speaking to various people, I can get a 2" kit that bolts on top of the struts and camber pins for around £150.

Would it not be possible to spend an extra £100 (so I have £250) and buy a set of new dampers and springs instead?

That way I would get the lift and new suspension (mine is 12 years old).

Would I need to get anything else other than springs and dampers?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What shocks and spring kits are you looking at, it could be a price per shock so that is 1000quid lol

I haven't looked at any yet, I was asking if it would be possible to get a set for around £250?

Set of what for £250? one pair of shocks is about £160. So £320 for shocks, and you still need springs for another £240 . So £560. But that is not enough for 14 yrs old suspension...

that is full set . If you need a suspension for future mods, and want feel it when you drive - there is no other way to do it right IMO.

A set of springs and dampers for £250?

I know you spent a lot on your new suspension, but you did add a lot of new weight with the rollcage, winch etc..

Would I need to replace everything if putting on new dampers and springs?

I'm not planning on putting a roll cage inside my car, the only extra weight would be from a roof rack (if I buy 1) and maybe some shelving in the boot space to cater an auxiliary battery and camping gear.

Hmmm... so you need to answer a question :
How you will use it
#1 Greenlaning in weekend for fun and daily car with almost standard weight -> Go for spacers. Find SES88 maybe he got still one set. then buy a good wheels on proper size and have fun

#2 Heavy moded car with a lot of load for travels - carrying roof tent, rack, a lot of luggage, protection, winch ect. You need to buy a proper set of suspension but this is not cheap

#3 want to point #2 but cheaper? - buy defender and welder ;D

I didn't saw a proper set of lift suspension for FL. Two manufacturers sell a springs - OME and Dobinsons - both not cheap.
Shocks is other story - you can go for Monroe , Koni FSD, or OME nitrocharger cartridges for McP strut. Monroe and Koni are full Mcp struts.
Everything else is a standard stuff.

Replace everything? More you replace - better for drive. Minimum that you need to renew are all rubber elements (bushes), top Mcp strut mounts - fronts especially

Was going to be #2, but I'm now thinking of using the freelander for #1, and buying a defender or FC ... I don't know what to do, I need to do some serious thinking and pricing up all my options

You need to buy the specific lifted springs & damper combo that Winu has, thats the only kit available, but as said, you'll need to renew a lot of things to get the most benefit from it.

Bit like what the bible says "don't put new wine in old wine skins".......

I was having a good think last night and decided that I'm going to go for the cheaper lift kit for now, and some bigger tyres.

I can see myself buying another LR next year so don't want to spend too much on the freeby at the mo.

Just a word of caution - some of those part numbers will be for pre 01MY Freelanders (1.8 and L series only) and may not be suitable for 01MY on Freelanders (1.8, Td4 and V6) so check your VIN before ordering and ensure you get the right parts

especially springs and shocks . Those listed are for L-series,
