Hi All

Yesterday I noticed that the passenger side front light was not working on dip on my Freelander TD4 (2004). Like most I through this was a simple case of replacing the bulb. When I checked it out I noticed that the main beam worked fine, just the dip not working.

Out of interest I swapped the LH and RH bulbs over, expecting to prove that the LH bulb had blown. Strange, the same thing happens, no dip beam.

Nextel I checked the fuses, mainly F20 &F34, but these were also fine. Out of desperation also purchased a new front headlight bulb for the LH headlight. Same thing with new bulb, no dip beam but main beam working fine.

One thing I did notice was that when I wriggle the connector block on the rear of the build, it sounds like an electric motor is moving, which I guess could be the headlight levelling.

Any help would be very gratefully welcomed.

Best regards

This happened on my 2003 Kalahari TD4. Your fault lies in the connector you referred to. This is a push together unit. You'll probably find that it has slightly separated, the little claw catch may even be broken. Push the 2 sections together firmly. As a 'belt and braces' you can use a cable tie to make sure they stay this way. Hope this helps.

Thank you all very much for your feedback. Armed with multimeter I am going to check out the connection and the connection block. Let you know how it goes.

Against thank you for your feedback.

Checked voltage across contact block, zero volts and then realised what a complete idiot I had been. I had been working with the full beam and not dipped beam. Removed dipped beam bulb and replaced it, all works fine. Thought I'd post this so you can all have a good laugh over a beer tonight.
I am looking to replace the breather filter on the crankcase next and from today's experiences, I will probably get this mixed up with the air flter:)

Anyway thank you all for your support and help.

Regards
