I was worried about lending my Series 3 landrover to my Son in Law who's car has problems, because he proposed strapping my Grand children into it with him!
I thought you may be interested in my:-
· The Land rover is a pile of ****e, but I love it!
· I wouldnt like to drive it more than 5 miles though!
· Black ended key is ignition, rusty key is drivers door, and small key is padlock on petrol cap. Passenger door locks with twirly thing on inside
· Ignition key has to be turned back a notch to stop the starter from staying engaged
· No seat adjustment, but ok for me. You WILL have a bad back when you get out though! (Your nerves will probably be shot as well!)
· Doors have no check strap so be careful on windy days
· Bonnet mounted wheel has a clamp missing but aint parted company yet
· Bonnet is EXTREMELY heavy to lift with wheel in position
· Needs full choke when cold
· Sometimes doesnt tick over at junctions and cuts out, may need tick over upping some more, all though its fairly high now! Presently playing about with tick over, mixture, timing etc
· Petrol gauge doesnt work and its a juice gobbler 15 to 18 mpg
· Clutch release bearing is noisy
· Gearbox is noisy; especially reverse which I try not to use a lot!
· If it rains, you get wet, if its frosty, you get wet from condensation as it warms up!
· Ive never tried seatbelts so dont know if they work.
· Tools are under loose passenger seat!
· Its very drafty
· The heater blower doesnt work, so wear a heavy coat! Youll probably be sweating about whether Landies going to go and stop at the requisite times anyway!
· The windscreen washer doesnt work
· Brakes are NOT servo assisted, but will stop you. They tend to squeak a bit.
· NO power steering but size of steering wheel compensates for that
· Turning circle is ****e
· Tyres are borderline legal
· Havent tried using four wheel drive yet but freewheeling hubs on front are set to two wheel drive. Has high and low box and four wheel drive levers and knobs, best left alone methinks!
· Front prop shaft has wear and probably accounts for a lot of the noise
· Speedo seems to work, sometimes, but because of the noise Ive never had it over 50mph, normally tottle along about 30mph
· Lights all work, although they aint the brightest!
I somehow got the impression it had helped change his mind when after a test drive he said "F*ck that!!!"
