Been getting this squeal randomly, had it a few times today though. I thought it was just an alternator belt that needed tightening at first but hearing it with the window down it sounded like it was coming from around the passenger side front wheel.

The bearing for that wheel had been re-seated and tightened up as it was groaning a little previously... Do bearings make that noise in a straight line though? :|

Here's the video with sound thanks to dashcam.

Try recording it again without the radio on!

Sounded like a belt though.

However, if you knew that the bearing was making a noise it should have been changed!

Tightening the bearing nut up will only make things worse, as it could weld the bearing onto the shaft and then your problems really start!

Whip the bearings out and change them for Timkens and replace the oil seal at the same time.

It should take you under an hour!

End of!

Yes it sounds like a belt slipping, a belt can be slack but not slipping when it is dry but getting wet can cause it to slip.
Do you notice it only when it is wet?

Hahaha., some of you guys can be cocks sometimes with those answers!

It maybe the belt yeah, I think it mainly is during the rain to be honest. Need to buy myself a crowbar or something to put a little more leverage onto the alternator to get that belt tighter. It seems to need to be tighter than normal cause its a 100amp alternator running with the older style V-Belts. Will keep you posted on how it is!

Also the stereo is on kinda low. I have just fitted too many speakers! :D

Khranok, be carful there is tight and there is over tight doing damage to bearings.
I have read that one of the Defender models has a problem from the factory which is alternator alignment error. It can be cured with a penny clamped in a strategic position, more I do not know but it would be worth you checking it out.
