Left turn whirring on my TD5 130

Heres a thing that is slowly but surly turning me mad.

I have a 130 TD5 defender, 75 thousand miles, 50% off road 50% road driving.

Its been a perfect drive until about a month ago, when I turn right nothing of concern occurs,when I turn left I get a really strange whirring sound, which is slowly getting louder, its not clunking or grinding, ive got new tyres on the beast but I am sure its not tyre noise.

To be a bit more precise it sounds like its coming froman area deep down from the gear stick area or there abouts.

Thoughts on a post card please

This is my first post and HOPE an expert out there can solve this for me.
