Disco 2 LED light strips

Evening All
Just bought some little (5 led) strips off fleabay and was considering using some of them to replace the courtesy lights, but I've noticed that the current lights dim themselves when they turn off so am unsure if leds will work. Has anyone has done a similar change?

I thought leds were effectively digital, so either on or off.
Either way, thanks, I think I'll replace mine now I know they work

I have the bulb replacement with I think 8 LED's on it which fit in the interior lights.
Yep they do definitely dim.

Basic LEDs are for want of a better description ANALOGUE; that is they light up when you apply a current of a few milliamps, the right way round and the go out when you remove the current. The amount of light is proportional to the current flowing through them. Of course, that's until you push the current too high, then you start letting the smoke that makes them work out then and they go off again.

As the current reduces under the control of the BCU they do dim.

What's not to like about LEDs?

They draw a lot less current for the same light level.
At normal operating conditions they don't get hot.
They don't have a filament to break due to vibration so they're more robust.
They're made to fit all of the common vehicle bulb holders so there's no need to install new lights.
They come in all the colours a user could ever want, and white means white.

The only downsides are they can't be used in the indicator circuits without modification and they aren't recommended for installation into reflector type light fittings such as standard headlights, spotlights and foglights because of the need to place the light source in a specific position to focus the beam properly.

They aren't just for "Freelanders and Corsas", LEDs are the future of lighting.

You forgot to mention that you battery won't go flat if you leave them on.

I have xenon conversions and I can leave my lights on for hours without a problem, I use that lots in winter.

For some the heat from a interior light bulb is the only heating available.

I have LED courtesy lights they do dim a bit but not as dim as a filament bulb then they go out when the threshold voltage is reached.
