Hi, picked up my new discovery 2 (2002) a couple months ago, and there was slight mould in places. Decided to hoover it out the other day..after 2 months and the carpets felt a little damp, so pulled a bit up and sure enough full of water. Decided to remove front seats and centre console, pulled all the carpets out and cleaned and now drying them. Scraped up all the old sound proofing, which just peeled away where wet, but took it all up anyway. Rust isn't as bad as I thought it would be, just a little on the drivers side.
Drove it around with just the drivers chair in and no carpets etc, and today it rained and I found my leak.

This hole in the picture, just under the door wiring harness is where the water is coming out of, so im guessing the whole inside of that "panel" is full of water and then coming out from up where the hole is. I have no idea if the inside of that panel is supposed to be water tight or if it should be open on the bottom? Or do the sunroof drains go down there? Any help would be appreciated.

And one other thing, since removing the centre console and putting drivers seat back, I have the SRS airbag warning light on, but wasn't sure if this was just because I didn't bother reconnecting the seats electric plugs, chair position sensor or something?

Welcome to the forum, but if you go and say hello in the Introduce Yourself section then ask to have this thread moved to the Discovery section, you might get a better response. Hope this helps.

Hey, sure thing will go have a look there, ehm maybe a silly question but how do I get it moved?

@blue beasty is the man for that, if you ask him nicely ;) :). Unusually, he's not logged on at the moment. He'll pick this up once he's logged back on. It's standard protocol to say hello first though. It's considered good manners in most forums. Otherwise, it's like walking up to a group of people, who are friends, and just talking at them without saying hello and introducing yourself first.

The Disco 2 has seatbelt pre-tensioners built into the seat belt buckles on both front seats. These are part of the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS). If they are faulty, become disconnected or have been fired the SRS warning light will show.

Well that’ll explain things, thanks.

Going to put the rolling swimming pool in the pit today and see if I can make some sense of the leak.

Thanks for moving beasty :)

Welcome. If you search (top right hand corner) you'll find lots on here about the leaks, as most Discos seem to do it at some point or other. Consider it as Land Rovers 'easter egg' feature. There are several places it can come from, though I'm not sure which will be the source for your water feature....

Sunroof - Water can get in via the frame-to-roof seal, or the glass-to-frame seal, either way it ends up in the inner frame. From there, it's supposed to go down the drain tubes which run down the 'A' pillar (or 'C' pillar for the rear sunroof). However, the spigots on the frame to which the drain tubes attach can break off, so the water gets onto the headlining and will usually collect and drip around the top of the 'A' pillar trims. It's not limited to here though. Depending on the angle you parked, you can also get a shower from the front roof map shelf and even from around the seatbelt in the 'B' pillar. How we laugh.

Roof gutter - The sealant that the factory put in the gutter to seal the roof joint hardens and shrinks / cracks over the years, so water can also get in around here, usually at the front corners. There is an LR instruction sheet for the dealers (now on the web) that showed them how to reseal this area.

Windscreen - There is a rubber seal around the windscreen, but I believe the actual sealing is done by the bonding of the windscreen to the body. If it has been replaced and not done properly, water could get in here. Whacking a load of sealant under the rubber will help. It could also be that front edge of the roof panel under the rubber seal is rusted and perforated, so letting water in.

I'm sure others will add to / correct / ridicule the above. Various solutions will be found via searching on here or the wider web. Enjoy, it's that part of the 'Land Rover Experience' that, strangely, they didn't mention in their advertising.

Hi Jamie. Also make sure the drain hole in the front A pillars are clear. As mentioned above, the front sunroof drains from here. They are very difficult to see but you'll see a hole underneath the pillar which I bet is covered in mud.

Sorry for the late reply, been a bit busy. Thanks Spong/mark2, was in fact the drain hole at the bottom of the pillar that was blocked and the sunroof must be leaking a bit down the pipes. Seems a bit of a poor design on the drain "holes" in that they were just little slits, I think the 1st series had them on the outside below the door if I am correct.
Of course fixing one problem led to more, noticed the headlining was wet on the drivers side, so pulled the roof lining out with some help and fixed the snapped off pipe with a small piece of rubber hose that fitted in the sunroof hole and the pipe slid on the other end. Oh, and lots of glue as it seems the factory sealing around the "box" was leaking too. Was meaning to sort the falling headlining material anyway, so just deciding between some black 3mm fabric with spray glue or some paint...
Took some pics of painting/sunroof repair, just need to get some new underlay insulation, I read on another thread about using "closed cell foam", not sure on thickness but im guessing the original stuff was no thicker than 4mm?
Also painted my rocker/injector cover to match my blue silicone coolant hoses, well the one from my old landy to go on the new one, but maybe thats another thread if its worth it.
Thanks.
