i have a 2000 TD5, with twin electric sunroofs. the front one keeps leaking, i am told this is a common problem and best cured with a new sunroof, before splashing out £400 has anyone got any clever fixes?

That is a bit drastic, have a search on here, the topic has been covered a number of times. The fault is often either the mastic seal between the outer sunroof surround and the roof, the rubber internal seal (vaseline helps) or the rubber drain hose connections to the internal gutter- the mastic breaks down on these.

Mine will be coming apart for an overhaul and fix in a few weeks (month or 2 at the most) will post the photos on here when done.

Recently replaced the front seal on my 99 plate td5. Still leaking, stripped roof lining out last weekend (again) took sunroof out popped surround out cleaned old mastic away replaced with black silicone sealent from B&Q. Checked it today after all the heavy rain and now appears to be dry as a bone, checked alpine lights at same time. total cost approx £8.00 + time to do it. Mate has a 2000 plate td5 with electric sunroof and found one of his drain pipes had snapped he fixed with a pen tube.:)

Thanks for all the feedback on my leaking roof. i took the roof lining off and low and behold one of the hoses had broken off, what a terrible design! some one had mentioned that they had used a bic pen to fix it. i didn't have a bic, but i did have a cancer research pen to cut up and it fitted perfectly! just a small bit of sealer for good measure, but an easy and quick fix that i wouldn't have been able to do without this site. cheers! just got to put it all back together now....;)
