Leaking injector pump

Hi

I have a leak on my diesel injector pump, which gets heavier when I prime the system (I'm having starting issues, which is why i found the leak) I have looked through the archive and have found it's probably just an O ring. Question is would this be enough to stop the motor starting?

Found this manual as well which might be useful to folks.

Covers pumps fitted to LRovers from Oct. 1971 (2.6Ltr IIA and 2 1/4Ltr IIA)

or whatever else people fitted that pump to ... :D  Good Find

is it dripping off of the throttel butterfly of the side of the pump? as there are two o rings that sit on these shafts inside the casing, and they wear and go flat after a while, witch causes your leak, its an easy fix and just make sure you buy the gasket for the casing,as the origonal will have gone rock hard,so you cant reuse it! just make sure you take pictures of how it all goes inside and take it appart very carefully! oh and dont overtighten the two nuts that hold the casing on,as these are also very fragile, and so is that old alloy casing! :) hope this helps!

Thanks for the response, it's always best to hear someone who has done the job themselves. I've ordered the gasket and picked up the O rings so I can get cracking, but would this leak be stopping the old boy starting?

Could well contribute to starting woes, anything that can let air in will give you grief.

Very probably! When you change the o rings and gasket, make sure yu clean the pump spotless before removing top cover. And be very careful as you do the job, even a few specks of grit will destroy the pump!
Nine out of ten times the two o rings will cure this, the other time the hole in the alloy cover will be worn oval, these will need a new cover.
I think ther will be three groove in the shaft, the o rings go in the outer grooves, middle one is left empty ;)

Cheers

The pump and most of the engine bay is grimy, i'll give it a good clean down before I start.
