The diff pan on my SWB rear axle appears to be leaking. At some point it has been hit and there is a very slight weep from the crease casued as well as the whole thing begining to rust. Is the only method of repair for this to cut it out and weld on a new one? If so how easy is it to reove the diff or can it be done in situ? Is there a heavier duty one that I could replace the standard item with to try and prevent it happeneing again?

And before any one says it I am also going to start shopping for a diff guard!

I have welded diff pans in situ,it's ok if pan has only surface rust and you are reparing contact damage.
Oil must be drained and then I heat the area with a blow lamp to remove any traces before welding.

I do not think my welding will be up to making a completely oil tight seal so may have to get someone else to do it for me.

the best way is to replace it, some replacements are thicker

Do you know who makes a thicker replacement as I will try and get one of those if I can?
