leak between gearbox and transfer box - oil straming out

Just finished putting my gearbox and transfer box in after doing a clutch change and have a stream of oil coming out. I assume i have snagged a seal when putting them back together or something, but before i start ripping it all out again is there any plug or anything that should be in the hole in the photo? I think its gearbox oil from the feel (hayfever means I cant smell anything right now). I replaced the seals between the transfer box and gar box when they were out.

Or any suggestions on what it could be? Please someone tell me it's a blocked breather and a couple of sharp taps with a hammer is all it needs (can only hope :rolleyes: )

Only leaks when the engine is running takes about 20 seconds to turn into a continuous stream of oil as can be seen in the last pic. Haven't moved it anywhere yet....

did you remove seal collar from g/box to change seal, its generally not a good idea to change g/box seal if its ok ,,t /box seal is very easy to dislodge when fitting t/box on g/boxobviously one seal is leaking t/box will have to come off
 
Pulled them apart tonight, cant see what one has been leaking. :confused:

Only thing was when i removed the lower bolt (next to the hole it was leaking from), loads of oil came out where the bolt was, at least a liter or so. Is that normal? I drained it before i removed it last time. Is it possible it is oil being forced down the thread of the bolt?

Planning on starting it tomorrow to see if it leaks from the gearbox seal, have the transfer box on threaded rod so should be easy enough to draw it back on for a bit of testing....

3 things seal; collar isnt in far enough edge of groove should be flush with rear case and seal,bottom lower bolt that goes into g/box should be 45m no longer as you can punch through rear case of box ,long bolts should only be top 2 and halfway up one on lhs the 2 rhs bolts should be 40mm, and you shoudnt try and seal between the 2 boxes
 
Thanks for the replies. New seals and a new collar should arrive tomorrow or Thursday so will stick them on and see what happens then, most likely leaking from the gearbox if the collar isnt far enough in. Old one put up a proper fight, hopefully this one will come off ok. Any tips for refitting? I heated it up on the stove for a couple of mins, dropped it on and tightened it down with a bit tube a bolt and a washer, was a bit worried about burning the seal if i got it too hot...

Bolts were the same ones that came out, doesn't mean they were right though so will check before putting it back together, likewise it had sealant round it when i separated them, so i assumed..... :)

Picked up 10 rolls of ptfe tape from screwfix this afternoon so will be plenty getting used going back in.
 
collar will tap on cold with a suitable tube, flush as i say so just groove is just beyond rear face will stop the leak ,as long as you fill seal with vaseline to hold garter spring in place whilst seals been fitted , they drop off easy whilst tapping a seal home,the fact bolts were originally were hthey came from doesnt mean they are right ,it will have been apart before
 
Been drinking and my mind on other things, but shouldn't there be a circlip on output shaft to retain collar as disco lt77 has it I'm sure
