I'm a new series 3 owner the 1980 88 model, it needs some restoration on it I'm just wondering.., I've looked at the leaf springs and they have all stuck together as 1 unit now so there not moving together , is there a replacement I could use instead ? Or any way to free them off with some sort of lubricating oil etc.. would that work?

search is your friend, but as a starter for 1, have a look at parabolic springs, hell even google is your friend on this one

It depends on how much you want to get involved really.
I would suggest you replace the leaf springs as they are probably near their sell by date anyway.
Just remember to order the correct springs as they are handed ie drivers side is slightly more stiff than the passenger side (i had a lot of this in the army with numpties using the wrong springs) How many land rovers have you seen driving around that list,Now I've mentioned it it will be a hell of a lot:hysterically_laughi

Liberally coat them in a mix of grease and petrol, wrap with clingfilm, load up the back and take it for a blast on a bumpy road.
The petrol helps to get the grease between the leafs and evapotates leaving the grease behind.
Paras are great so long as you don't want to load up to capacity in which case it's like being in a rowing boat on a stormy sea
A compromise is paras on the front and standards on the back but if you can free up yours, so long as they're not flat, and you keep them oiled/greased they're much better than their reputation suggests.
Mine get a coat of whatever comes out of the engine/gearbox at least one a month

coat them in diesel/petrol/plusgaz - wrap an old cloth sack around them to keep some of the fluid inside the leafs - bounce up and down on the landy making the springs do some work - it's possible it's just a thin layer of rust that has them stuck
if it runs, drive over a good few bumps to wake the springs up - you can also consider removing, separating and cleaning
but bin them if they are very sagged

Saw a Series 1 with them wrapped in leather! Bit classier than clingfilm
denso tape is a good compromise

Just until they're free. It saves having to repeatedly lube them and dripping gunk everywhere. Once they're free an occasional painting with whatever old oil is to hand will keep them that way.

I stripped and rebuilt mine on my lil series 1 now it's lovely and soft not running yet but give me a month and I'll get some pics of the working. When the leaves were apart I located them in petrol old engine oil mix as I reassembled them. They should work lovely now

all my leaf springs were splayed and noted on a recent mot. I don`t go off road so I just wanted to replace them with straight forward leaf springs and not parabolic. I don`t think you can buy British made springs. There either chinese or Indian, didn`t fancy that cos I was told they are not as well made. I did however find some decent ones on ebay where the owner was changing to parabolic. all 4 springs for £40

Paddocks new ones seem fine - I've had a pair of petrol ones on my S3 diesel for about 10,000 miles and all seems OK.
