Hi there, have just aquired a 1983 landy series III. The only problem is that it has a leaded head :( . Does anyone know where I could get an unleaded one from, or does anyone have one in reasonable condition from a stripped engine.
I hope to get her running merrily

Hi,

If it ain't broke, don't fix it ...... until it breaks.

Just run on unleaded petrol, don't use additives. Save what you would spend on those, keep it in a tin under your bed.

Your engine might last for years, but if valves fail they will do it gradually. I fitted a knackered engine in 1992, never even changed the oil or filter, I waited for it to die. It was still running in 2007.

BUT ..... if you grind your valves, you will lose all your "lead memory".

When the engine does die, fit a 200TDi. and get 30mpg.

Having the head converted usually means having hardened valve seats fitted, quite expensive.
I have also ran a leaded engine off unleaded for ages, and it was fine, the only issue was that sometimes it ran on for a second, probably the plugs getting warm causing ignition.
Glad to see your still posting teff's.

Unless u doin serious distance leave it as it is. Not worth the agro/cost.

Mine has run great 4 years. I do add lead additive now n again.
