I was thinking about getting one of these and would like to hear your opinions on the late series 3 109 diesels.

What are the main faults with these, I hear that the late 70's/early 80's models are rust traps and the diesel models have a MPG equal to a steam engine.

Is this true? :)

As there is very little difference between an S3 and an S2 - get an S2 - at least your tax is free!!

Check chassis and bulkhead for rust - rest is ok!

:cool:Bulkheads & chassis for rust as with any landy:D:D, most if not all will have had one or two bits replaced or repaired on the chassis & bulkhead by now or the probably will need replacing.
As for diesels they are not much different in mpg from the petrols but remember they where notoriously underpowered for the 88's so standard 2.26's in 109's take a bit longer to get going but still good fun to drive. ;);)The bottom line is if you are not worried about tax exemption then don't worry about the year and just look for one that is in as good nik as possible.
:doh:I didn't check mine as thorough as I should have before I bought her now I am looking at a new a front prop and UJ's new brake shoes and axle oil seals all round, still all the fun off owning a 32 year old vehicle:rolleyes::rolleyes::D:D

:D:DGood Luck:D:D

drive like a granny and you'll get reasonable mpg outta the diesel. Got 30 mpg in the S2a last fill :D probably ****ed off a few people who wanted to get to their destination that day....
