Ever bought something you really liked/wanted, got home and it’s not quite how you imagined?

Been talking about leather seats for the disco (98 S reg 300Tdi 5 door) with the missus for a bit now, nice and easy to care for and clean with all the dogs about. Can find grey leather quite easily but not cream to match our interior.

Anyway, I found a set, from a 300Tdi. Got them home and days later I go to have a look about swapping them out and “uh-oh…. I dun messed up”

They are not a straight swap.

Had a look at the Haynes book of lies and something seems to be wrong here. Accord to Haynes, I think, the seats on mine are mounted as if it’s a three door??

This example is using the front passenger seat.

Here is the current seat… (The arrows in this pic and the next indicate where the mounting bolts are and in which direction they go in)

Notice how close to the seat the bolts are, the mounting bolts go in to some sort of frame, the frame is welded to the floor and not bolted to it (three door styleeeee?)

Here is the new leather front passenger seat…

This seat is fastened to the frame with four screws in the runners (very hard to get to) and the frame is bolted directly to the floor.

I’ve thought about if I can swap them over at the runners but!!!

A: It looks like the bolt in the runner for the leather seats is very hard to get to with out me making a pigs ear of it

B: The runner are not in the same place on the different seats

The runners are approx 440mm apart

The runners are approx 330mm apart

Any ideas? I like the seats, the missus likes the seats, they are a lot more comfy than the others so deffo want to keep them and find a way to fit them in.

The rears should just slot straight in though right?

Cheers guys

Unbolt the seats from the frame. Buy 2 sheets of 5mm Ally drill the holes for the frame and the seats in the sheet of ally. bolt to frame then bolt seat to plate. jobs a good un.

Alright guys and merry christmas, hope Santa came and gave you lots of pressies.

Anyway, back on topic. I took those seats beack. Turns out the mountings for the front seats and seats belts changed considerably from about 1996 for the Disco, and with it the seat frames did too with the hinge brackets holding the top and bottom parts of the seat together being different dimensions so you couldn't just swap the seat part over with the chair back either..

I am after a quick answer tonight if anyone on here can help (I know it's the big day and all so I understand if I get no answer tonight). I have a shot at getting some Rangie seats, from either a 95 or a 97 Rangie. Both sets look like the seatbelt mounting points are attached to the seat as they are on my current Disco seats so that's one issue sorted.

I am wondering what the measurement between the centre of the runners is on a 95 and a 97 Rangie. If they are 445mm then I'm sorted they will fit on the seat base in the Disco and I will probably just need an angled bracket for the rear fixing so I will go ahead and buy them.

Thanks if you can help
