Last defenders?

I was talking to a guy the other night and he said that the 2007 model defender was the last model defender to be made ( also saw it mentioned in LRO magazine ) because it didn't come up to new safety regs. Is this true? If so when will they stop making them?

Yup, new regs come into force in 2012 that ladder frame type chassis can only be used on vehicles over 3.5t. This excludes all Defenders apart from 110 Hi-Cap (3550kg MAM) and 130's. However, they will still probably be making them but not for sale within the EU. The D90 will be finished off - even the army are phasing them out and upgrading standard 110's to Wolf spec to replace the Wolf 90's.

We shall have to wait and see what the new owners say - could go the way of Lambrettas and other vehicles and be made in India...
