I have grabbed a repair panel from another landy which failed its MOT.

This will be welded on next weekend and then I'll put him back together again. That is after I also replace the fan and do the tappets whilst I have very easy access.

get in there with plenty of waxoyl after a good clean off, never be as easy! think if i was that close i would whip other wing off as-well, 2 jobs whilst no bumper etc!
looked clean car tho!

The other wing will come off and be re-seal sealed and painted etc, the car was pretty much rust free till the prang.

Fun though playing with Disco's like a big boys mechano.

But I can't wait to get him back on the road.

Ok, I have been away working but got to do some more on the car today, firstly I finished grinding off the old welds and parts on the quarter.

Here's some grinding (well this was the other week).

Today I got around to getting the rest of the panel prepared, basically got the rust sorted.

Quick blast with a disk

Then some of that anti rust stuff

Anyway, that panel is now sitting in the shed waiting to go onto the car tomorrow if I'm lucky.

So I thought I'd get some of the scrap and practice my welding. This is a bit I cut down the middle to but weld.

Then I seam welded the two plate together and plug welded it to another piece of metal, not perfect but ok I think.

Not perfect but I know what I did wrong so I'll probably get better next time.

I also worked out how to fill the old holes with the help of the mig welding forum. Put some copper behind the hole.

No comments on the crappy welds around this image please, the regulator packed up on the welder I replaced it today and all is super good now.

Honest !!!

Uve got too much wire cuming through on last pic. Ignoring the perosity due to lack of gas shield. U dont want it to be crackling its head off. A kind of hiss with slight crackling. Like bacon in the frying pan.

Ok I have done a little more today, I got the rest of the crap parts off my car and offered up the replacement panel and cut it to size.

To ensure when seam welding I had as small a gap between panels as possible I clamped the new and old panels together and used a hacksaw to cut the two panels together.

Then I cut the panel.

Then I did the same with the other side, not sure if I got this bang on but I'll check it before welding.

And I need to align the wing top.

Next the welding an re-creating the inner wing, all the stripped parts are covered in weld through primer as well.

Anyway nearly there

Right done a bit more today, I fixed my mates welder and started on the front whilst waiting for my gas valve.

Anyway, bad plug welding done on the front.

Then I welded the top of the wing, use copper at the back.

Seam welded the top rail wing thingy

I had cut the new inner wing to align with the old inner wing which had good metal, took a while to get right. Will seam weld it soon.

Starting to look like a car again.

I just have the seam weld, finish the inner wing paint and then out the gubbing back and I'm done..

Theres a cafe in selly oak here in brum that does a similar one. Only it is 12 of everything :screaming_bug_eye_f

I will be trying it out next year :D

Tomatoes, beans and mushrooms? That's three out of your five-a-day.
