Large cups

My series IIA has large cups under the bump stops. Any ideas why? And they do interfere with the axel straps. I'm about to move the axels yo a new chassis and am thinking of just grinding them off in the move.

Looks to me like they are for coil springs. Is it possible the axle came from a Defender?

It's possible, I was hoping someone would know for sure. Just seemed a strange place for them to be.

If I recall correctly you could get a rubber helper springs that sat in a cup like that.

Thanks for the info. That makes sense. It was a tow truck with crane in its first incarnation, so helper springs would make sense.

Definitely helper springs. Also fitted to armoured Landrovers, including the lightweight Landrovers in northern Ireland.

Grind them off. Just a rust trap.
