Tom, how do you price club stands?

At the Bristol & West and Eastnor we get 8 weekend vehicle passes free inc camping at the stand with the option of extra passes at the normal camping rate

IMHO; looking forward to another show, never been to Bristol and West and Driffield so can't comment, Easnor is good but not great, LR Max was fantastic, Billing-great for meeting up but tired of the thieving ******* and Peterborough the best by far.

So thanks Tom, you'll get your critics, as they say you can't please everyone all of the time!

Good Luck!

And BTW, if you come across any more little Hitlers, please go to the Event Office so it can get sorted. Ta!

Thanks Tom, tbh, we started off at the event office to find out what we were meant to be doing any no one was that sure, it was later on in the Friday evening i imagine things were getting a bit stressful. Everyone we spoke to was really helpful, right up to the last guy. tbh, we laughed off his brashness and just setup camp.

Maybe next year we'll need to arrive earlier!

On the plus side - we kept pretty much everyone of your exhibitors in business at the overland show - we even came away with an awesome, bizarre wooden bench and a sheep skin / wool duvet cover!!

Thanks onelife, we aim to please. Oh no, that another saying ... "We aim to please, you aim too please". :D

"Stressful" Bump? There just isn't time to get stressed! Most of Friday afternoon is mad, towards dusk on Friday and most of the entire evening is truly manic as folk roll in after work. Me I love Saturday evening as all the traders and campers are in, it's only then I can have a beer or three. Friday I had just one pint ... now that's stressful!!!

Regarding Club Display Stands, the policy is just 4 weekend passes - these are meant for the club officials who do the donkey work all year. Again, as the camping fees are less, consequently the free passes for the clubs are less.

As for the 'Nicking at Billing', don't get me started. My friends was ever so lucky as he & I turned the corner behind his Trade Stand to find our two sleeping bags had been dragged out of his marquee, each stuffed with £4-5K of clothing! The :censored: must have heard us coming and scarpered. The amazing thing is, it was bucketing down on Saturday night, and both the bags were bone dry when we found them ... meaning the tea leaves must have been there quite literally seconds before we arrived. Lucky or what! Never going to trade at Billing again, the place should never be allowed to run another show again until security is up to speed. Simply had enough!

One friend in the D2B club had his rear lamp guards nicked during that downpour  And another friend who is a trader says he always sleeps on the stand there because theft is such a problem. Its just ridiculous there these days!

You think that's bad - a performance drift car was stolen in day light from the teams stand at SantaPod a few years back - these aren't standard key in ignition type start cars, there is a process to follow to get the things running - full security on the site at Santa Pod, yet, someone still drove it out and away from the site undetected!

Haven’t been around for ages – where has the time gone this year??? Okay, I've been reading other's posts, but haven't actually posted anything myself, so here is a well-overdue update:-

Back by public demand is the National 4x4 Show & British Off-Road Motorsport Show. Previously held between 2001-4, there were three editions of the event at Trentham Gardens in Stoke, the fourth at Shuttleworth in Bedfordshire.

Of late, non-Land Rover owners have been saying that it's a shame they couldn't be involved in LandyLive! so it's now been decided they can after all by having a section all of their own (Stratford Racecourse is BIG). So as an added bonus to LandyLive! the event has turned into 3-shows-in-1. Better value for money, it's a win win situation for everyone.

Also, as you’ll see, a healthy smattering of diverse clubs and groups have already booked in so far:-

4x4 Overland Travel forum
4x4 Response North East
Bedworth 4x4 Club
Birmingham Land Rover Group
BLMRA (British Lawn Mower Racing Association)
Camel Trophy Owners Club*
Chiltern Vale Land Rover Club
Convoy 4 Heroes
Discovery Owners Group*
Doncaster District Landrover Club
FWDC (Four Wheel Drive Club)
GLASS (Green Lane Association)
Greenlane 4x4
Landy Rally
Loughborough Land Rover Club
Race2Recovery
Thames Valley 4x4 Club
West Mids 4x4 Response

* pending

However … although more ‘official clubs’ are quite welcome to attend, I’d still like to get more forums involved. Forums/messageboards are after all the modern equivalent of the old style club, so as first mentioned last year, if anybody on here would like to represent Landy Zone, then a bunch of complimentary weekend passes await. Simply email me for further details, my email address can be found via Home - LandyLive

Any news on whether Landy Towers will be attending?
Is this secret code for Landy town? I have no idea, but if it is, the answer is ... yes!

BTW, wanted to get down to your LZ bash last weekend, in the end I just couldn't make it; shame! Trust it went well.

Now I'm here, thought I'd let you see the information about the catering and bar area I'm currently sending out to traders, clubs and regular campers for have booked in advance for LandyLive! + National 4x4 Show + British Off-Road Motorsport Show

Your thoughts peeps?

HELP … WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

As this inaugural 3-in-1 event (contractually scheduled for the next 10 years!!!) is all about providing ‘value for money’ and ‘something different’, you will find below information about the catering and evening entertainment provided over the course of the weekend.

The bar for instance is significantly cheaper than most pubs, so please support us by leaving your BBQ’s - if only for an hour or so - to show you are backing what we’re trying to achieve.

Like a broken record, I've been going on for ages about LandyLive! being an event for ‘us enthusiasts’ … basically an alternative to being ripped off at numerous other Land Rover/4x4 shows over admission, camping and catering. Plus of course I’m providing something that you have been requesting for years. Well this is it, your show’s finally arrived!

Of course you must still have a communal BBQ with your mates, but remember that supplying live music and low-priced beer isn't easy to achieve, so if you can … PLEASE JOIN US!!!

Tom McGuigan [Event Director]

P.S. Club officials – please pass this information on to your members.

BREAKFAST Sat & Sun 7.00 – 11.00

The ‘Breakfast Room’: Served within the licensed indoor bar area at LandyLive! (yes … actual tables and chairs, knives & forks!!!) the set breakfast @ £4.50 will comprise of – 2 eggs, 2 sausages, 2 bacon, hash brown and of course the all-important baked beans. That’ll set you up for the day!

DAYTIME CATERING Sat 10.00 – 17.00, Sun 10.00 – 16.00 (at sensible prices!)

Gurkha Field Kitchen: Delicious Nepalese curries prepared/served by ex-Gurkha Regiment servicemen.

Exotic Meats: Burgers with a difference … bison, camel, crocodile, goat, eland, impala, kangaroo, kudu, llama, ostrich, springbok, venison, water buffalo, wild boar, wildebeest, zebra and wagyu(kobe) beef!

The Mexican Bean: Hot 'n' spicy chicken/beef/pork burritos and nachos, plus vegetarian/vegan options.

Wild Oven: Wood fired fare (i.e. quality pizzas) cooked on board a Land Rover Defender mobile oven!

Churros Susanna: Dripping with chocolate, these tasty treats are the Spanish equivalent of doughnuts.

Crêpe Escapes: Savoury crêpes incl. Hawiian, Mediterranean, goats cheese & caramelised red onion, plus all the usual sweet favourites.

EVENING CATERING Fri & Sat 18.00 – midnight (again, at sensible prices!)

Gurkha Field Kitchen: Delicious Nepalese curries prepared and served by ex-Gurkha Regiment servicemen.

The Mexican Bean: Hot 'n' spicy chicken/beef/pork burritos and nachos, plus vegetarian and vegan options.

Wild Oven: Wood fired fare (sorry – only open Fri evening + daytime Sat & Sun, not open Saturday evening)

Churros Susanna: Dripping with chocolate, these are the Spanish equivalent of doughnuts.

LICENSED BAR Fri 16.00 – midnight, Sat & Sun 12.00 – midnight (better than pub prices!)

Real ale @ only £2.50 per pint, larger/cider @ only £3.00 per pint … plus wines & spirits.

Disco (or even karaoke if you’re brave … or mad!) Friday evening, disco + live band Saturday evening.

LIVE MUSIC Sat evening, early until midnight

Playing three sets Saturday evening, we present Midlands legends Skawaddy. As their name suggests, ska and reggae is their speciality, but 40 years in the music business means they play everything from rock & roll and punk to middle-of-the-road covers. “Bundles of energy” best sums up this band – bet you drop before they do!

LZ10 was great thanks :) a shame you didn't make it as it would've gone some way to ease concerns you just log in here to spam events

Of course it's natural to want to spread the news but we did ask permission to post on other forums. It's only polite really.

Sounds a bit dodgy having only four LZers on a stand.....takes at least eight to make one normal person :D

Hope it goes well though :)

Well, to be honest, I didn't go along to LZ10 partly for that very reason - I didn't want to be seen as merely turning up to hand out flyers and tout for business. Now that would be taking the Mick! There is one thing posting on a forum about an event, as folk can have their say (that can be everything from 'having a go' at me or the event, through to discussing the possibility of booking a Club/Forum Display Stand), but to turn up at your bash unannounced just didn't seem right ... so I decided against it!

I did however manage to get down to four other events over the weekend - no rest for the wicked? End of the day I'm a one man band, a Range Rover nut who wants to run value-for-money Land Rover/4x4 events that don't rip people off. I annoys me that commercial companies with no interest in our hobby whatsoever (apart from making fat profits) have a stranglehold on the show scene, and nobody seems to notice or even care.

As for the amount of times I've posted, I am registered on well over 100 forums/message boards all over the world ... as well as operating my own overland forum ... plus running 4x4Calendar (a completely free resource for off-roaders - a real labour of love), plus a number of other sites I won't mention as they could be regarded as borderline spam ... so attempting to split my time between all these means I'm not a regular on any particular forum. That's life!

What I've NEVER done on here or any other forum is to promote products or services over the years, solely list events - both mine and charity-type events for others - since the internet first started. Permissions were therefore sought "blue beasty" twenty years ago!!! It has happened in the past that a new Forum Moderator has taken over the running of a site, so has PM'd me asking me to cease listing events. Fair enough, no problem for I stopped immediately, but of course that meant the club in question simply stopped booking a Club Display Stand as their members never heard about the event until it was all over. Like those club members and many others I used to buy four LR/4x4 mags a month, nowadays at £4.50 a pop I rarely buy one.

Yep, it's difficult 'spreading the word' without looking as if you're spamming, sorry if you see it in this light. What's the answer? On my forum I have a Commercial section where companies can post all they want about their 'wonderful products'. Whether users actually read these the posts is another matter entirely, but then that's up to them. I also have a dedicated Events section where again, organisers can list forthcoming events. I tell you, these sections are brilliant for keeping out all the true spam away from the everyday chat sections. Just a thought ...

Hope his shows have improved since the first one he ran at Frickley. It made LZ 10 look like a sellout.. :D
Bit unfair mate. Frickley was never billed as a show, just a 4x4 market/autojumble with off-roading thrown in for good measure. That and the fact it p****d down for most of the time didn't help. I recall the course turning into a bog, which naturally did down down well with the few who ventured down there. A "show" it certainly wasn't.

We do have a 'Spamming Bastards' thread and an events calender you are free to use "Tom Mc"

I'm sure is tricky using 100s of forums to advertise for free but I'm sure you're aware there isn't a LR forum that comes close in terms of unique IP address hits.

Over 8000 a month at the last count I believe. The glossy mags dont even come close and don't even make very good toilet paper....though it can improve the content :p

The tricky thing is you are hoping to make a profit and using us to acheive that. That's spam here, no question.

I'm also very much in favour of indie shows, which is why this thread didn't disappear long ago. You do make it a little difficult to ignore the way you use us by posting a cut and paste you've put tiall over the internet though.

Conducted an interesting exercise tonight. I clicked on ‘My Replies’ to see what I have actually posted about on LZ over the years, the results were a revelation.

Out of my 25 posts, only 4 related directly to shows I have organised over the years, and even one of those threads was a repeat of one which I couldn’t find anymore (probably moved into a different section).

The overwhelming majority were informing users about other people’s events, charity appeals or replying to everyday threads of other users – thus proving that I don’t “just log in here to spam events” (your quote beasty).

For me the most telling was my offer in the “LZ 10th Anniversary Celebratory Meet” thread, where I offered two marquees and a space heater for the weekend. How selfish was that?

See for yourself:-

LandyLive! Stratford-upon-Avon Racecourse 7-8 June 2014

Obviously my announcement about the inaugural LandyLive! show.

"Over 8000 a month at the last count I believe. The glossy mags dont even come close and don't even make very good toilet paper....though it can improve the content". Had to giggle at that!

"The tricky thing is you are hoping to make a profit and using us to acheive that. That's spam here, no question". I’m a one-man-band for heaven’s sake. If myself or other small independent organisers who like me have a passion for Land Rovers don’t break even or show a profit, shows/autojumbles/events would all but disappear. Only Ripley, Billing and Peterborough would remain, as they have the budgets to cope with a bad turn out due to bad weather and so forth… not good!

I'm also very much in favour of indie shows, which is why this thread didn't disappear long ago. You do make it a little difficult to ignore the way you use us by posting a cut and paste you've put tiall over the internet though. Of course I cut and paste, but only about my events on a dozen LR/4x4 forums. The rest of my worldwide chat is about overlanding, competitions like the Dakar and Malaysian Rainforest Challenge, and my other passion – football. Without forums I simply couldn’t run 4x4 events at all, I know that, so am very grateful. BUT … I don’t simply come on LZ (or the others) just talk about my events, that’s a fact!!!
