Landrover Discovery (2000) needs Auto box

Hi,

The Discovery needs a automatic gearbox, so ideally looking for a good second hand box and someone to fit it.

Costs I have been quoted is the value of the car, it would be great if a enthusiast happens to have a box laying around and happy to fit it for me at an additional cost, has to less than the rip off garage rates.

Any help would be really appreciated

Bizarrely a friend of mine contacted me yesterday as his brother in laws disco is in a garage with a goosed autobox and he wanted to know if I'd quote him to change it...

Unfortunately there is sometimes a reason why garages charge a lot as to do this without a decent lift would be nigh on impossible, sometimes not only are you paying their physical labour charge but you're paying for the use of their equipment to

Er, ... Ok, ... but this is motoring for you. The thing to consider is the value of the car to you, not its value as scrap - since without a functional gearbox, its not worth much more than that.

Also, to save the "rip off rates", buy some tools and DIY - you'll have the tools forever.
Plus, if you did a proper intro, with a few piccies, and some background, we might be able to give more comprehensive advice......

I thought mine was comprehensive

. Trying to put any gearbox on without proper equipment is impossible as you'd never line it up without a lift. I could probably do it on a defender or series but no way on a Disco

I've seen it done on a D1 without a lift - but, by gum, what a faff - but its doable with the transfer split from the main etc.... a ball ache, but doable.
