So I'm wanting to buy a new door top for my Land Rover 1974 88. Now my problem is I bought this vehicle about 18 months ago and have found Both series 2 and 3 parts on it. So, my question is....... when I went to look to purchase the door top online I noticed there is one for a series 2 door and another for a series 3? Whats the difference and what should I look for on my Land Rover to decide weather I need a door top replacement for a Series 2 or 3 door?

Doors are exactly the same. Just the hinges will be different between s2 and series 3 (which are like defender ones) but hole centres are the same.

Door tops will fit both no problem

there is someone that manufactures aluminium door tops, a lot more than the steel ones but if you plan on keeping the truck a long time it might be a worthwhile investment

The series III tops have a hole in the bottom rail for the locking catch, the series II do not as they should have the push button lock riveted to the top of the frame.

I have bought SIII tops from Britpart, which were ok to be honest (the only blue box part I have been happy with), but I bought tops for my SII from SP which were much better quality all round and I would recomend heartily

Sp @ £50 each +VAT
Rocky Mountain @ £285 per pair inc VAT

I fitted Rocky Mountain door tops. Very well built as you would expect. No flapping or bending. What I find particularly good is that both panes of glass slide so if you want more breeze you can slide back the front section of the glass. They are 3x the price but it's a fit and forget job.

No question over the quality whatsoever, I have seen how good they are, it's just that some folk would want to pay that for a whole vehicle

would love to treat myself to a pair, hopefully one day I might, as ever there are always other items more pressing to buy first, they are worth it imho if you plan on keeping the car a long time, and have the moolah to hand of course
