Not impressed with Land Rover

I bought some rear door window seals from a local dealership to go in
the new frames i'd found for my 94 classic.

The seals are the ones that fit around the fixed window, i've tried
to fit them and also the guys at Twenty Ten classic specialist restoration and the glass wont go in no matter what.

The parts chap at LR tells me they won't have the seals back as they have a minimum value returns policy of £30 !!

A part under £30 you can't return ?

I told him but they don't fit so i want my money back as in theory the parts are not fit for purpose

I'm waiting to hear back from him as he's now contacting someone at LR

Why go to a stealer in the first place?

I am sure that if you had asked on here, someone would have given you the lowdown on what does and doesn't work.

I have used Autoglass to do the fitting when I have had problems putting windows back in, and with them quite often they will do it in exchange for a few beer tokens :D

if you paid by card - credit or debit - just get your card company to bounce the payment and take the things back, if they are supposed to be the right part and they don't work you have the statutory right to a refund irrespective of their returns policy.

That's my understanding too.

And then name and shame said dealer on here :D:D

Where else would you get genuine rear door window frame seals from for a 94 soft dash classic ? hence i tried LR first

They were £16 each + vat so hardly crazy money but they wont fit even though
they are the correct part number. I don't think we need Autoglass to fit a side window as its
pretty straight forward on a classic, or should be :)

My last conversation with the parts guy was the parts aren't fit for purpose as they don't fit so i wan't my money back, he was going to contact someone higher up and get back to me.

Its only £38.40 but that's not the point

I totally agree that you should get a refund, a big disappointment though having found genuine Classic trim parts still available :D

We tried every which way to fit them with no joy which i was not happy about and now not being able to return them simply and get a refund is taking the p

Not only am i out of pocket £38 for the seals i'm also out of pocket having to pay labor cost to two different technicians who spent around 1 hour each trying to fit them !!!

The only good bit is when we took the original seals out they were actually in good condition and after a good clean with G101 we've re used them.

I can understand your frustration as I too would have to pay labour!
It would be interesting to hear LR's explanation as to why professionals couldn't get the seals to fit if the correct part nos. were supplied. My own limited knowledge is that the thickness of the glass was reduced (by 1mm) on model year VIN FA (1989) onwards, if that's any help.

Spoke to the parts manager this morning and had a call back from him later
this afternoon.

Problem sorted and they'll have the seals back :)
