hello all landers !!!

After a few years driving a bremach and a boxer dangel and having both set up as motorhomes by myself, i ve decided to come back to land-rovers. I had a serie 3 and a range rover VM 10 years ago, and it was an unforgettable pleasure. As we now live in Lot in south west of france, we really want to stop to travel with motorhome and to enjoy the surrounding countryside with a real four wheels drive. A sign of destiny, a UK family living a few kilometers near our house and being on the way to go back to england was selling a beautiful discovery 2 TD5. It s mine from the 8th of may, and as it is an old boy with 296000 kms and MY1999, my intend is to overhaul it completly with, i hope , the help of the forum members. I ve also started a new website : https://landrover-disco2.fr/
sorry for my poor english, i will try to do my best to be understandable in my next posts.

Bonsoir, Lebouchern! Et bienvenu a LZ! :)

It is !! it takes 3 days to clean it and inspect all the hiden parts, the vehicle was parked under trees for 15 years. There was a leak in the cooling system that was a loose collar, a few bulbs to change, and a steering box nut to tighten. There remains a leak to the transfer box and a noise that suggests that I will have to change the clutch. For the rest, very little rust, including the chassis.

That is the main thing with a Disco. So long as the chassis is solid, all the rest can be easily repaired.

Looks very nice! 296,000 is not a problem if it has been well looked after. I was reading an article in LRM last week and a bloke in Australia has done 1,000,000 km in his D2 with the same engine. He did go through two gearboxes though.

I still go on inspecting it and cleaning everything, also making a list of what will have to be replaced. I m so lucky that there is no rust behind the pannels and in the hidden corners of the chassis ! I try to post as much things as possible on my website, for people bying such an old guy having an idea of what needs to be checked. So, thanks for the story mikerajjers, i just have 700000kms more to enjoy and test my repairs !!!!!

Landrover engines always went on a long time if they were looked after. The rust was always the big problem.

But you should have much less of a problem with rust if it is dry where you live, and they don't use too much salt on the roads.

i m lucky because this discovery spent 15 years over 19 of live in our region (departement du Lot near Cahors) where there is never salt on roads and a dry weather. There are also open country roads where i can take all the benefits of my new land. I ve already drive 200 kms in one week, as i need to feel my return to the 4X4 passion...
