Hi All

I have just joined and thought I should say hi.
We decided to move to Spain in April 2007 and have settled in really well. We live just outside Barcelona in a small village with no other expats, its great but challenging to learn the language.

I am looking to buy a Discovery but find them expensive compaired to the UK and for some reason there is loads of 3 door 5 seaters but next to no 5 door 7 seaters. I am looking for a 196 to 1999 model.

If anyone can shed light on models and prices in Spain it would be appreciated.

Hi Boonie

Thanks for your reply, how long have you been in Spain?
We live in La Joncosa del Montmell, which is between Barcelona and Lleida. Where is Sant Pol del Mar? Do you have a Land Rover?

San Pol is about 50K north of BCN on the coast.....CATALAN CATALAN de verdad.Been here 12 years now.My ex of 8 years is Spanish....i decided to stay cause i like it more than England.
No i dont have a Landy....yet.
I am in Morocco at the moment on my Honda Africa Twin.Came out to do some off roading to Dakar in Senegal but the French government cancelled the race at the last moment....typical French. So i am stuck here enjoying myself racing to Dakar alone.....at least i have a good chance of winning.
Hell of a lot of Landies out here.....but they are the Santana kind....built in Spain under licence

Hi. Brian in Estepona here. Just been browsing, looking for a 60th birthday event for landrover in Spain. Did attempt to join a club here, but time, work etc took over, and distance was to great. Loads of Landrovers and no club. Any way about a vehicle. I brought mine from UK, LHD. Just bought another one here for the girlfriend, RHD, converted it to LHD. 1998 110 300tdi, UK plate, changing over to Spanish. Cost €9000 plus paperwork fees. Try looking for one in UK, drive it over and do the conversion ??? Does anyone know of a 60th celebration party in Spain.

Hi, sorry .......... Hola. Putting dates in diary, consulting the other half, ..... she doesn't like getting her 110 dirty, but " DIDDY" the 90 seems game for a weekend in Portugal. See you are in Granada, I'm now 3 hours down the train line in a small village called El Colmenar, ............. towards Algeciras.

Keith, did you try to learn spanish before you moved to Catalunya? I did before i moved to Barcelona. fat lot of good it did me, hardly anyone speaks spanish there.

Hi,

I unfortunately ran into a spot of bother just outside Valencia, with my J Reg 110, a place called Sagunto. I broke down on the motorway and had to be towed to a mechanics near by. At present the mechanic is suggesting i need a new engine (he suspects one of the pistons has gone but isnt sure), he has quoted a price of 4,000 Euros for a scrap yard engine.

This leaves me in quite a predicament, as that is more than i can afford to pay. I have a few options,

1) buy a cheaper engine here (was hoping for a disco) and take it down in the back of a van, and barter with the mechanic to put it in for me
2) take a low loader down and get it back to the uk
3) sell it as it is
4) or try and persuade the mechanic to look for other engines more economically priced (last option is unlikely as the mechanic has more or less washed his hands of me, after i said that 4,000 seemed excessive)

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or any mechanics that would be more suitable and/or willing to put a disco engine into my 110. I was hoping for something near by as it will need to be towed.

Would appreciate any suggestions.
Many thanks Adam.

Hi.
4000 euros seems a bit steep for an old engine ? I don't know the area of Spain where you broke down. I live a few 100k's to the south west. But a recon 300tdi fully fitted came in at 3500 euros, that engine came from the UK suppliers all clean and shiny ! Then fitted by my local guy. Do you not have european recovery ? I would search the forum for some ex pats living in the Valencia area who might be able to help you out a bit more. But it seems to me the best way forward would be to get the car piggy backed home, and transplant a recon yourself, ......... if you have the tools and means to carry it out, it is not too difficult.

Best of luck. I'm sure some one out there with the green oval as a heart will be able to help. Kiltedchico

Hi Johnny.
Kiltedchico from up in the mountains, inland from Estepona. Keep me informed. Over the last 7 years I have driven the tracks in Marbella area. Whats left of them that is !!! Found better places to explore inland, or a weekend hop to Portugal, where to 'Green lane' is very legal, and the locals friendly. A great 60th event in Gorvia, Portugal. Organised without being full of petty rules like UK events, and all for 25 euro's entry, unlike LRO'S bash in UK which cost nearly 90 of those useless pounds if you wanted to camp, drive, etc . Only met 3 other ex-pats there. Been to Morocco a few times, but some of the best area's are being caught up by tourisim, real roads replacing the old roads.............. shame. But can't deny the world progress to preserve our fun. Maybe get to share a beer after a day of lowbox crawling . By the way, any idea where the 4x4 shop is in Marbella ?

Kiltedchico.
