Hi everyone,

Having the following issue with my Disco 4 (3L diesel SDV6 automatic)

When I am driving down the motorway (around 70mph) every once in a while the car loses power and starts sputtering and dropping cylinders, almost like it's being starved of something, but when I take my foot off the gas immediately when this happens and reapply the pedal a few seconds later it seems to have gotten itself together and drives normally. It can be fine for an hour, a week, or a month before the problem ocurrs again. Almost feels like momentarily running out of gas, but this is not the case as the vehicle always has fuel. There are no engine lights or codes when this happens. Every time it gets checked at our garage, the car checks out (the joys with an intermittent issue)

After much research I have seen a few people suggesting it couldbe an issue with the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) However this was on a US forum and when I phoned LR UK, they didn't seem to be able to identify this as a unique part or tell me how much it would cost to replace.

Any suggestions or insight to similar experiences would be appreciated.

Thank you!!

Hi

when was the fuel filter last changed and if there’s no codes etc need to look at the live data , could even be a loose wire

best to at least check the fuel filter age, plus what make it is, on my D3 I always fit a genuine one as some of the cheap ones there’s been reports of issues

hope that helps a little

ps, plus so nice to see plse and thank u as it always goes along way , just refreshing to see it

Thanks for your reply!! It had a full service last year including fuel filter (Bosche not genuine Land Rover) I'll check that out before its service this year. Thank you again!

Fuel pump relay? if it has one that is?

Is your bunch of keys very large/jangly/heavy?

Hey man

Did you ever rectify this?

I have similar issue. I had a load of warning lights the first time they the dissapeared. Changed the fuel filter and thought that was it but today same issue. When i come off gas and then back on it always comes back, well for now. Thankfully this had only happened at lower speed

Thanks in advance

same problem on my disco td5 changed fuel filter and it happened again Replaced the fuel pump in the tank and perfect since

Thanks for this. This could be golden as I had
A code for low fuel warning but wasn't low on fuel so suspected was fuel related.

Something like this? How hard of a job was it?

yes that is it. Alittle bit of an effort to push back in. The pump it spring loaded and held in place by a metal o ring screwed on while pushing down on the pump. mark the position of the ring before removing. you may need a second pair of hands to push the pump down while replacing the ring. sometimes cleaning the pump can work but a new one is about EU100

Worth a try before going down the inlet manifolds and turbo route. If it were Turbo related I'd likely cut my losses to be honest.

I'm bemused that the problem is so intermittent and coming off the gas and back on power comes back making me think its probably turbo related. Maybe an actuator or something but this is worth a look.
