Can anybody give me advice for the cost for a Oil Pump Cover ? I have read that this is a necessity?, I am viewing 57 plate discovery at the weekend.

Also Compressor unit does not appear to have ever been replaced ? is this an issue

Iam new to land Rovers!

Compressors seldom need replaced unless there is or has been suspension related issues in the past, this is a good sign usually.

Does it need the oil pump cover done? Should this not have been done under warranty?

It would be expensive.

Hi

As the other guys have said ,

Plus , can highly recommend to have the oil pump cover replaced ,is a must from 2007

Cost are £132 for the part https://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/lr076782-oem-fomoco-oil-pump-27-30tdv6-c2z31680-922725-p.asp

Plse make sure it’s done when front and rear belts are replaced , ensure the tensioners are also done, aux belt , also pays to have the water pump replaced at the same time seeing it’s apart

Garage at the most will be £1,400 for everything to be done , average price is around £8-900

Belts are done every 105,000 miles or 7 x years

Suspension compressors normally fail because of an air leak or the incandescent silica has turned to dust which blocks the filters and prematurely burns them out

Also done a buyers guide which I hope will help

https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/buyers-guide.312800/

If u put a shout out on the D3 forum there are some fantastic mechanics who can do the job and come highly recommended

Hope that helps

Thank You! I have read through the buyers guide which is fantastic!

So if the belts have already been done then do the pump next time the belts are replaced ?

The problem is the cost of an engine swap even second hand will be almost the value of the car at that age, so for the cost of an oil pump and belts you simply cant take the chance.
I tore mine down to do the pump only to find it had been done, gutted I was:D

Would this be something that would have been covered by a Land Rover warranty ? Recall ?

Nope as LR in their wisdom dont recognise it as an issue, same as the broken crank/spun shell issue, best of all and you will like this, its not even covered under the official 2nd hand land rover warranty scheme as the 3rd party scheme providers recognise it as a manufactures defect!
The oil pimp casting has been modified a couple of times at least, to beef up the cembelt tensioner mount.

To be fair cranks sanpping are quite rare, but its well publicised
Oil pump failures tend to happen after a cambelt change and is possibly attributed to the mech tightening the bolt to tight starteing the weakening process

I reckon there two main issues, 1 is the oil change interval is to long and 2, the oil quantity is woefully inadequate 5.5 to 6 litres in what is quite a large diesel engine, add in to long between oil changes!
