Topspeed has an article regarding the replacement of the Land Rover Defender, due to replace in 2013.

"First launched in 1948, the iconic Land Rover Defender will be replaced in 2013. Initially known as the Land Rover Series I, the iconic SUV adopted the "Defender" name in 1990 as a measure to distinguish the utility Land Rover model from the Discovery and Range Rover..."

hmmm sounds like a cross between a gaylander and p38- we will see

If this is true it supports my own predictions (see my previous posts) though it doesn't mean that I am chuffed to be right on this. The final nail is probably the forthcoming ban (due I believe in '13) on building vehicles with separate chassis, though I don't know the exact details.

Bugger the pedestrian safety, anyone who can't see a Defender coming shouldn't be anywhere near a public highway!:mad2: I reckon talk of banning seperate chassis' is an insurance company conspiracy to boost repair bills, just as talk of making drivers responsible for pedestrian/cyclist injuries no matter who's at fault paves the way for the NHS to start billing :crutch:against drivers insurance for non-driving idiots who don't look where they're going.:mad2:

I hope it keeps its looks, it would just ruin what the Defender is about if it looks different.
Shouldnt LR be seriously thinking about a Range Rover replacement now too?,different lights and a new engine(2010) doesn't really cut it as a new model.

They are releasing a new model in 2012.

How would you define a separate chassis? Although LR are careful not to use the word, the Discovery/Range Rover Sport base looks very like a ladder chassis to me.

Land Rover refer to it as an 'integrated' chassis now, but it is seperate from the body. I guess they're better designed to complement each other now, rather than making a chassis and then bunging a body on top.

For god's sake if there's anyone from Land-Rover reading this please, please send the new model out to a few farmers to test BEFORE you put them into production. The current defender has become less and less practical with each facelift. I am on my sixth Defender at the moment. This will be my last unless the new model is PRACTICAL !! i.e. more storage space in the cab, more legroom and better towing capability. There are thousands of Defenders in every day use on farms, surely we deserve a say ?

:D:DWell said that man I couldn't agree more if I tried:):)

Pedestrian friendly front end. Bollocks to pedestrians. Don't walk in front of something that can kill you, should be the message. I won't come on the footpath if you don't come on the road. If you do keep your bloody eyes open. If it's anything like the **** heap, disgusting Evoque we are in for a rare treat.:mad::mad:

Part of the conspiracy to not build anything that lasts or has a not got a life span, might be good for us and Land Rover advertising that a high % of old uns are still on the road but that is not the norm now adays.
In 10-20 yrs can anyone see someone refurbing a Range Rover Sport in there back garden, the new slogan has to be designed by computer built by robots driver by *****'s.
Can you tell i dont like hi-tec cars there is no need for them what is wrong with k-i-s-s or keep it simple stupid.

If you can mend um yourself how are the dealers going to make a living principal applies to every recent vehicle. If you buy a new JCB and don't send it in for service when it says to, the bloody thing just shuts down. Way of the world these days sadly. It will come in on cars sooner or later.
