whats the thing in the rear tub with the 2 bars?

That is a military laycorn box, 2 of which fit perfectly in the back of a landy with 25mm square box framework to hold it in place and to act a barrier for light fingered idiots. ( the mat on top of the box is for the dog to sit on when driving, he likes it)
There is a second box behind it, but that is only locks with hasps and padlocks.

Cheers

Looks the biz, I like that

My 90 was also a hardtop when I bought it but the first job I did was to fit 1-piece doors, side-hinged tailgate and a MOD soft-top conversion (C/W hoop)..
Love this soft-top conversion! One question I have is about the roll-cage; is this a 'full' roll-cage and who makes it? Thanks.

No cage fitted to my 90, just a pair of standard MOD hoops which as standard have additional bracing through the capping.
Had a full chassis mounted cage in the past (not this vehicle) which I had made up by a local engineering firm to my own spec following ARC guidelines but didn't feel the need to go for that this time.

Hi @rrb7
Just wondering how your project is coming along? After a hiatus of a few years, I'm now getting back in to Landy ownership and acquired a Defender 90 300TDI which I'll be converting to a soft-top. TBH, I'm struggling to find a cost-effective solution to a roll-cage + hoops; the SD L236 fits the bill, but the new price is prohibitive for me and someone out there must be flogging one or something similiar. @Litch, on this posting, has a superb solution for his 90 soft-top, but can't source the military hoops at this time, but early days! Good luck on your re-build/refurb!

Not a cage as such but I recently fitted this substantial hoop set.

These are excellent and, as you say, substantial and definitely "fit for purpose"! Inspires me to hold out for getting my hands on a few MOD hoops or equivalent. BTW, where did you source these? All makes for a great looking Landie... thanks for posting. T.

They aren’t ex military hoops but are certainly a lot stronger than my original mod hoops.

They are fabricated by a small business called purely metal Ltd. No website but he has a Facebook page and can do them powder coated or galvanised. I think he will also do customised ones too. I thought of having an extra hoop added but didn’t in the end.

I've contacted Purely Metal with my vehicle details and a postage query, as I live 'off-shore'; if all good, I'll order the full frame kit. Here's an excellent vLog by Fraser, where he covers the Purely Metal frame in some detail:

They look very nice. Don’t have the stiffener feet that the military roll hoops have which rivet to the bulkhead and tub but I’m sure they could make it extend down.

Very tempted as my hoops are slightly bent but I think I’ll stick with originality for now and add these to my list.

They are same height as standard frame. It’s a standard canvas I have

Cool I was thinking of going for some in galv, with some extra bits added so I can have upper storage above the load bed

The chap seemed nice on the phone, I just got to get the cash together!

Hi, it's been over a year since your original post, so how did the project go? If all good, maybe you could post some pix and details some of your experiences?

thanks
