I am considering buying a 1988 LR 110 V8 with LPG. Is it a good choice or a dead end? Anyone?
Thanks

Hi
It depends entirely on the condition RUST! Doors chassi, bulkhead but everything is possible to fix on a LR 110 as you can see many examples of in this forum and other places on the web and parts is available at several UK dealers on the web reasonable prices. So from that perspective it is not a dead end. But the V8 is thirsty thing.

thanks, mats. I have had a V8 LR before, a Discovery II, but the LPG installation made it thirsty for less :) I heard that LPG-fuelled LRs (110s in particular) suffer from lack of power, is that true?

Ok I also had a Discovery V8 before and now a Defender TD5 I prefer diesel I must say I recently got it chip tuned and its like a new engine less consumption and much better performance. LPG no experience but so much I know that LPG has a bit higher energy content than fuel so it cant be the reason in itself...must be a matter of setup

The best landy I ever had was my 110 V8 CSW. I only sold it as I couldn't afford the fuel bill. I didn't have LPG on it though.

I had LPG on my 2 1/4 series 3 109 but obviously there is a huge difference in power between the 2 1/4 engine and the 3.5 V8.

The good thing with V8 defenders is that they tend to go for much less than the diesels. You could fit a diesel engine at a later stage if fuel costs do become an issue.

welcome to landyzone and yer a 110 v8 with lpg is a good choice my old 110 with lpg used to do 17l for 100km on petrol 16.5 on lpg and you don't notice any power loss and you get a v8 burble so go for it just be careful of rust

I would say it depends more on the how easy it is to get LPG and the size of the tanks.

Is it EFI and what LPG system is on it.

I have a multi point OMVL system on my 4l V8 Disco, there is a slight drop in power and MPG when on LPG but nothing that worries me.

Mine averages 14-17MPG on LPG, it was down at 11 before I serviced it. I have 2x36L undeslung tanks but IMO they could do with being bigger as range isn't as vast as I would like.

I would not worry about the availability of lpg out here in Poland mate every 2nd petrol car runs on lpg and my old 110 had the standard fuel tank and twin 120s in the back we could cross Germany from one side to the other without filling up (quite an achievement with a v8) so will most likely have a 80 or 120 at least
