OK, the story thus far:

Defender has Insua Special Tracks (came with the vehicle 3 years ago) on it - it came with 2 spare ones as well and I have used both of them recently.

Whilst the spares were new, they were a tad old and subsequently one is not in great shape and has a slow puncture from somewhere...

Now, to be fair, I'm not 100% keen on the tyres themselves - they produce a hell of a road noise and whilst people comment that they look good, I don't need massive mud tyres all year round.

Having said that, replacing 1 tyre falls within my Wallet Happiness zone - I'm tight as a ducks arse on things like this - But I don't really like the tyres (see above!)

I am not going to pay £120+ per corner for Grabbers / AT2's and the like - I get a headache just thinking about spending that sort of money!

I'd like a decent set of tyres that whilst having a decent tread patten, are not over-the-top and call something like Mudshaggers or UltraOffroadBollocks....

Discuss...

Ok John check with craddocks they got a huge selection of Tyres and prices seem very Fair. Best Tyre I have ever used and is Coopers AT2 I get 60,000 plus miles on them and are great in snow and ice and great in mud and what you call green lanes, we call farm roads. Have never been let down with them.

Yep another vote for at2's they last forver and so make the extra cost worth while to begin with. Theyre preety good in ice and snow and good all rounders

Sorry to vote for the expencive option :D

I'm even more confused!

Looking at AT2's / Kumoh KL71's and Coopers....

AT2's come out cheaper but still going to be £118 a corner, so may do the front to start with - when I decide which way to go!

Recently bought 5 Event AT's on steel modulars from Tyres Direct total cost was around £540 all fitted. balanced and delivered next day.

Same pattern as BF and just did a Pyrenees off road trip with them and they were fab.
Good on road and were amazing off road on steep rock climbs as well as mixed gravel and mud.
Have done around 2000 miles on them now mixed use and they have no signs of wear and corner well on road even in the wet.
Fitted on my 110.

Sorry - £540???

Bloody hell.

That's way, way too expensive! Or maybe I'm either out of touch or very, very tight!

Yeah, but I need a replacement asap, so do I get a special track and save for the others then keep the Specials for emergency use?

This sounds a plan...

All depends on how many miles, and what sort of use. I have Insas had them for a few years, they were 55quid each, and they are good round the farm and for laning. But I have ATs as well, on other wheels, and I have a Disco, and a car. So chances are the Insas will perish before they wear out!

They are the Turbo Dakar, not Special track, much too noisy and aggressive for regular use imo.

If it was my only vehicle, or I was planning on using it a lot for long haul, or on expeditions etc. I would cough up for the branded tyres, coopers or bf are fine, as the others said.

I'd vote for the Kumho's. Had them on for about 3 years and no issues. Only get loud above 60, handle well and great in mud or snow. And they look the dogs.
But that's only my opinion.

That's just what has happened!

Will order a replacement insa and then go for a branded set when funds allow
