I know, I'm on with all the fluff at the moment, but my tratter's running great and I've no mechanical questions. I would be spending my time contributing to other people's questions but I haven't come across any I can help with.

So I've bought an original expedition roof rack for my tratter. After adding ladder in word association (the 23rd time it's been used I think) I thought I'd look into finding a ladder. I don't know which one's original? Is it any of these?

Not sure if LR produced 'original' ladders. I suppose they probably did. They don't do Defenders anymore and so you'll not be able to go on the LR website and see what ladders they did for Defenders. Someone will probably come along who knows what they were like.
However, why don't you get the ladders that match your roof rack!

Yeah I know what y'mean. I have spells of getting hung up on keeping things authentic to the tratter rather than what I like best. I find google images a bit rubbish for defender searches. I can never get the right pictures cos it throws up so many different defenders that are all different.

Well, the 'look' has been around for a very long time. During that time folk like us have been faffing about with them. I felt the same as you when I did my rebuild. Still do! But, I did freshen it up a bit without going over board. It's back to being fairly original though.

I'm no expert on roof bling, but I'm pretty sure that this isn't a "genuine", ie OEM, Defender rack. I had one which I believe was OEM. It was 1 inch tubular steel, had curved transitions between horizontal and vertical elements, the "basket" went all the way around and the ladder was 1 inch square steel that went the whole height of the back panel with no fancy curves etc.

This is a ‘G4’ style roof rack, Land Rover changed options over the years.

Well then. Forget the ladder for a moment. I can't buy replacement gutter brackets anywhere. LR don't sell em seperately. There are 2 on ebay. The mush wants 50 quid. Anyone good at metal work? I was so crap at it I just nicked off.

Depending on what you intend on loading the rack up with, I don’t think you’ll miss two brackets, the two pairs of rearmost brackets look quite close together so you could lose the second pair in. Not perfect, but it won’t fall apart.

It's the front ones I don't think I've got anything for, so it looks like I need 4 of something and some new gasket rubber/plastic things, but I can make them I'm sure. I used a wire spinning thing on my drill as they were in really bad shape, the kurust then sprayed the ford metallic my roof is. Got to go for now as the house stinks of spray paint and I'm gonna get proper bollocked. If anyone knows what I'm missing, that'd be great.

VPLDR0063. So I'm missing a bolt, 8 x 2 hole drilled plates and two nuts. I wonder why they put four lugs with a hole on the front if nothing goes on em?
