Hi, today I was driving the car and for no reason is really strugled on hills, it tried to sort itself out and the gearbox was jumping from gear to gear trying to get drive. I pulled over and when I pressed the accelerator it was wery flat on the low revs, almost like it was "missing". I started driving again and the same, really struggled and almost died on a hill. I stopped again but once I set off the "trans fail prog" warning came on the dash. I limped home and she's on the drive, any ideas?, by the way I hadn't just filled her up, she was on the same fuel for the part week with no probs, even that morning I went out and she was fine.

I just want to point out I had done about 30 miles on B roads, called the AA and after scratching of heads, I made the call that I would limp back home. It was just after setting off then that the "trans fail prog" message came on and then went off. got home and turned off and message re-appeared.

get it plugged in to read faults and auto box oil checked for swarf- they eat themselves

Try putting gearbox into neutral and the rev the engine if it still feels limp
Then you should be able to tell if the gearbox or the engine is causing the problems
:)

It goes into neutral happily, actually it still pulls well, but there is no power. In neutral, when you depress the accelerator it flat spots on pick up then sounds ok at higher revs.

when I say "pulls well" I dont mean from the engine, I mean the gears stay constant on hills. "trans fail prog" does not come on at all now but still lack of power. Downhill whilst labouring it sounds lumpy, you know like its "missing".

I,m in Hampshire/wiltshire border, Nr Andover. I have scanned the car and no fault codes appear?

Went to other garage, various codes appeared, turned out to be dodgy connection on injector no 5, all sorted now.
