Hi all,
I just wanted to get your opinions on a problem I'm battling with. To try and cut a long story short. I replaced both my track rod ends after I took the car to get the tracking done and found they were seized on the shafts. There was nothing wrong with them but I decided to change them as the cars getting towards 100,000 miles.
Anyway I changed them both with lemforder components, within the week the offside or drivers side started creaking when steering or going over large bumps. I thought this was a bit odd for a track rod end but I took it back and got another replacement one. Again it was quiet for a week then started creaking. I can feel the track rod creaking if I hold the knuckle while someone turns the wheel. To isolate the problem I changed both upper and lower arm bushes and ball joints on that side, creaking was still there so I took the 2nd track rod end back. I've just fitted the 3rd one and within a week. Creaking again!!!!
All these track rods have come from a reputable independent land rover specialist.
Each time I go in they seem to doubt that a track rod can creak. I even asked their mechanics to take a look and they confirmed it's the track rod. What do I do know? take it back again. Could they have a faulty batch? if so I'm obviously using track rods from the same bad batch.
What do you all think or what would you do?
I'm tempted to buy a cheapie off ebay to confirm it is that. Its a shame I chucked my good old ones.
